Advice needed
    #23694832 - 09/30/16 06:05 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

What could cause this type of growth?

It seems like it is hardened and a different color than the mycelium beneath it as the growth is growing on top of the mycelium.

Wondering if these were fruited to early?

This growth started about 4-5 days after put into fruiting conditions.

Somewhere in your sterile work went bad. The wispy mycelium that covers your whole substrate indicates that. Was it pretty wispy in the spawn jars also?

Looks dry too. Those holes don't even look like they're stuffed

It was very white in the jars. I spawned 1:1, 4 qts rye to 4 qts coir/verm. It looked fully colonized so I fruited it. Apparently though, it may not had been full colonized... Put into fruiting after 7 days.

The moisture was not evaporating at all over the surface so I loosened the poly fill and added a fan operating at a low cfm.

I may have a picture of the tub before fruiting, I will look.

Would be my first attempt, ever. Thanks for any advice!

- Found a pic right before stuffing with poly. Maybe this helps show if I fruited too soon?

Damn man where'd you find those? They look yummy if they're really cubes! I can't ID those but it might be worth a try posting in the Mushroom ID forum if you haven't done so already.

Edited first post. Was meant to say fruiting not spawning. Sorry.

I dunno man that doesn't look like fruits it looks like a type of mold.

How long did the it take for the substrate to fully colonize? I think the fan might've blew contaminants into your substrate?

Do you have pictures of the spawned jars?

You couldve waited a couple more days before spawning but still it looked healthy at that point. I think the mistake was loosening the poly fill. You need to mess with the fan until you find what works best

What strain is this? It doesn't look moldy yet. Just dry and bacterial af.

No such thing as fruiting too early as well.

@ the guy asking for an ID, that's some sort of amnita for sure. Definitely get an ID from the ID forum tho to figure out if it's muscaria or something similar.
