This. I think its more about finding your path/purpose. A lot of people find this in their work, others find it elsewhere.

It's something to do and I get to socialize a little which has become important lately because I have realized that I am hopelessly behind the time in term of social skills. Turns out I can't say half the things I used to say without being seen as a devil by SJW who are increasingly present in society. You got to stay updated.
I totally get the idea of a career. Of course being called sir by a larger and larger amount of people is rewarding. It makes you feel important in the world. Plus there's money and social status related to it. But for some reason, none of that matters to me at all. When people say "don't you want to BE somebody" all I can think of is "I'm already somebody?". I don't want to lead the sheep simply because I do not give a fuck about the sheep...
Sounds to me like you have a career
I think what your really asking is if it's wrong to not want a corporate career, or an office job. And obviously there is nothing wrong with that at all. Why do you even question this if you like the way your life is working out?
I have a typical career. I am not sure how I feel about it, I have spent a lot of time rationalizing it. I get paid what I consider quite a lot of money, about double the median household income in my area, and my wife works too so together we bring in some real dough.. Having a fat checking account, and no debt can be liberating in some ways; like having the ability to travel, not worrying about surprise expenses ect...
At other times my job feels like a ball and chain, but I think for me, any job would.. I spend about 75% of my time in the office and the rest out in the field, I work in a beautiful state and get paid to drive all over so I routinely mesh work-tasks into weekend camping trips to get my gas paid, and a free hotel stay If I want one.. I only work 4 days a week, and I have the freedom to run errands during work hours. When I consider what I get paid for how much work I have to do, ~about 15hrs / week tops, I feel like I would be a fool to give it up. I'm also not very outgoing, most of my free time is spent on the internet, and I can do that at work completely uninhibited... So even if I didn't have this job, I would just be sitting at home playing with myself.. This is how I rationalize working...
I can see why really outgoing people who want freedom to travel or do art or some other passion wouldn't want to work, and for those people I think turning your passion into work makes a lot of sense, if you can.

I don't want a career, even though I have one. I want to win the lottery and fuck off for the rest of my life, doing whatever I want. Is that too much to ask?

I have some books self published on amazon that I paid writers to write for me. I know many people doing 5k+ a month just from short ebook publishing on amazon. I am also in the process of starting my own physical product store using shopify. I am pretty excited about this venture because ecommerce stores can easily sell for 25x or more their monthly revenues. But wait, there's more the profit percentages in dropshipping are around 20% which means hundreds of thousands of dollars can potentially be spent on a credit card with travel or cash back bonuses.
I have also talked a bit with a business consultant who specializes in real estate and once I have a down payment I plan to live in/ rent my home.
To me its working for money vs money working for me.
Its pretty crazy to think about but a random guy I stumbled upon on youtube talking about his passive income business hdpiano.com and following his recomendations to read the 4 hour work week have drastically altered my entire life.

Create your own moral code and stick with it. The oppressive moral code that others want to put on you is, in fact, immoral without independent validation.

You made the right choice IME. I used to work for Symantec and quit within a month because I couldn't see a future for myself there.
Yes I agree totally with this! Patpal it is actually not all about work anyhow (life) you know right. It's about happiness & bliss & I don't want a career either I have an Air Conditioning Degree(universal )myself, but do not even work. I know why did I even go to college right? Well to tell you the truth I am against Air Conditioning & Electronics, but still get on the forum though occasionally. I think the World needs more people like me & you. We get to see more & have more time for friends & family & fun! I hope you all have a great evening. I love all of you. Yea Peace & Love
