I used to think a career is important untill i failed in college and dropped out cause it got too hard.
But having a career isnt just about making good stable money, its also about making a name for yourself, making a brand for yourself in a way.
Some people are proud of their accomplishments within their careers

Lol. I'm not a librarian. I just work part time at a bookstore. 90% of my income comes from room rentals. I work in a library because I chose to. It's something to do and I get to socialize a little which has become important lately because I have realized that I am hopelessly behind the time in term of social skills. Turns out I can't say half the things I used to say without being seen as a devil by SJW who are increasingly present in society. You got to stay updated.
I totally get the idea of a career. Of course being called sir by a larger and larger amount of people is rewarding. It makes you feel important in the world. Plus there's money and social status related to it. But for some reason, none of that matters to me at all. When people say "don't you want to BE somebody" all I can think of is "I'm already somebody?". I don't want to lead the sheep simply because I do not give a fuck about the sheep...

I would love to have a career, not a 9-5 corporate one though. My ideal career would be like being a photographer, or a journalist, something where I can work freelance and set my own hours and is relatively low-stress

I got out of college and immediately got a job for the government, all the benefits, close to 50k a year entry-level and flexible hours. People from my class were still working minimum salary envying me... Then after 9 months I said fuck it, I'm leaving this potential 120k job in 5 to years, garanteed, government protected, unionize with a schedule pay increase way higher than any private corporation offers while doing half the work and having twice as many breaks.
My family lost their shit, my friends too. I was crazy. I had officially lost it. WTF is wrong with you???????
They finally got over it and said it was a stupid youth mistake you would regret and then eventually they said that I would grow up and want it again and realize my mistake. Fast forward 10 years. Still don't regret a thing, I still have absolutely no intention of having a career or a full time job. I did put the cash I made from the gov to good use.
So yeah. WTF is wrong with me? Did I turn down what everybody my age wanted because I'm a moron? Was I wrong?
Do you want a career?
Whatever makes you happy man.
I can't imagine spending most of my life under/unemployed. I need shit to do; I'm not happy just sitting on my ass all day, plus I have expensive hobbies and tend to get myself into trouble when I have too much free time.

I don't ever see myself having a "career" as in a 9-5.
I've been successful without one for the past 6 or so years. Jobs on and off. But mostly unemployed by an employer and am self employed.
But I would make more money doing what I do now, than working any job. Unless I wanted to be a doctor or something ridiculous, but then i'd have over $100k in debt and my entire life consumed by my career.
Now I can work casually, take winters off and get paid in full at the end of every year instead of weekly paychecks all year.
So i'm going to rock what I do now and be a millionaire by the time i'm 30.

If you're a doctor you'd have over $500K to $1 million in debt... only $100K to become an MD, unheard of.
I always wondered how life turned out for people who spent so much time and money to become doctors or attorneys, only to decide that they hate the work. But by that point it's basically too late to change your career path. So what do you do? Just grumble through it and hate your life?
That must be why doctors are some of the most sex-addicted freaks I know. Usually I find that people who are under the most stress in their jobs end up releasing that stress in very... eccentric ways.

up to $500k+ debt, no thanks.
I knew I was aiming at the low range of $100k, but damn.
edit: My sister is about $100k in debt for going for her Phd in I forget what field. Up until her thesis, she loved her work. Then she literally lost all passion for what she was studying for and stopped going. She is still able to get work because she has a few degrees by now, but she isn't even interested in the field she started in.

I dont care about a career per se.
I care about earning enough money for my needs and wants in a way that I enjoy so that I like my job and love my life.
I care about stability, security, pensions, benefits, union protections, insurance, medical expense accounts, that kind of thing.
Covered massages, covered physiotherapy, covered counselling.
Regular raises at intervals, paid days off, paid vacations.
I dont care about a career, but I care about all those things.

I don't care particularly about a 'career' but I would like to have a driving purpose/craft/set of skills/whatever and I would like not to be poor
so a career could accomplish both of those things, but if there's another way to do it that'd be fine by me too

no
i'm almost 30 and am, for all intents and purposes, retired. i work 5-7 days per week, but i make my own schedule (no set schedule, only motivation and sleep), and accept/refuse jobs as i please. i work in a broad field, but by no means have a "career" or any kind of safety net often involved w/ company jobs.

So I looked into this and apparently hating your job after going through all that BS is not new, in fact being an MD is the second most common occupation that people commit suicide in: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/04/14/how-being-a-doctor-became-the-most-miserable-profession.html
Whoever wrote this should maybe consider opening up their own office and hiring other doctors, or working as a medical sales rep or something, where they wouldn't have to practice as much: https://www.reddit.com/r/offmychest/comments/1xc0qy/i_hate_being_a_doctor/

Failing at life is a career.
It's not easy.
It's tough work to completely give up on everyone and yourself and get so sad you don't even masturbate.
Then you get a dicksucking behind the dumpster promotion.....that's when you are the failing boss.
Have a couple illegitimate children, don't pay taxes, shit on the sidewalk at night.
These aren't easy and take a lot of skill and practice and patience, on top of spur of the moment thinking.
Or you could just.....keep trying to better yourself til you land in something that truly makes you happy, start whacking off in the bathroom at work, get promotions for yelling at your other coworkers or putting cocaine in their locker at work and telling on them, or suck dick to get to the top not because you HAVE to, but because you NEED to.
This is america. We are all winners here.
