You don't need to pasteurize coir. Bucket tek works fine and is easy to do. But either way it should work fine.

Any bucket tek from the Amu list? Or are you referring to a specific one?

After more reading in this thread I have a question about hole configuration.

I have an older 30 quart tub that has one 3/4Inch hole on the long sides, with the bottom  of the hole at 4 inches  and one 3/4 in hole on the short  sides at the top near the handles . I do not plan on casing.

Should I make the  holes larger? 1.25 inches?
I also have one 30 quart with no holes. Without  a casing , how would you  configure the holes? 4 holes total  at 1.25 in. Diameter, or 6 holes at 1.25 in?

Like I said in the OP, lots depends on your environment. For the 3/4" hole tub, I would try em as is first, use the poly density to regulate. You might need to go bigger but you might also be fine.

If the 30 quart is a sterlite and really square in shape, the do 4 holes for sure. If it's more rectangular then 6 might be better. Depends some what on your climate. Dry does better with fewer holes that are dialed in looser.

It really is all about just dialing it in. I will reread  that post when the time comes. Thank you

Pasty...sir...I made two hybrid mini monos for 13 PE brf cakes and CVG. I noticed that you said you use two holes on the bottom long sides for exotics such as PE that prefer higher FAE. I made my minis with just one hole in the center. Will this suffice or should I modify the tubs for more FAE, and If I should, what hole configuration would you suggest?

They are sterilite 20 qt tubs.

Just dial the poly in looser. Should be fine.

First of all i want  to  say thank you to pasty and amu. So thanks!

First 30 quart mini appears to be at the end of its first flush. I say appears because i have gotten about 10 large mushrooms. I harvested the large ones as they matured. And the surface  is covered with  tiny  white pins. Should i mist heavy or dunk to get those  pins going? I used 10 brf cakes to cvg. No casing. Today marks 2 weeks in fruiting.

My birdseed spawn tub is a week behind  the brf tub. Its pinset is awesome!

If it's pinning then I wouldn't bother it. Mist if it looks dry and otherwise let it do it's thing.

Using micro spore tape instead of lint fluff looks much neater and easier.  How would you make that work with these, start to finish?

Im testing a clone as soon as my 2 quarts recolonise and fancied this mixed with the spore tape method.

Great,  What hole config do you prefer for cubensis?

For mini monos and cubes I like the 4 hole setup. More than enough fresh air but won't dry out too quick.

Call me crazy but I only see boxes with 6 holes or 2 hole with lots of little holes.

you're crazy

There's 4 holes (many mini monos) which have two down on the long sides, and two on the short sides.

There's 6 holes (like normal monos, but my minis mostly have this config and are dialed in accordingly) 4 on the long sides, 2 up high on the short sides.

Then there's 2 holes down low, with a shotgun spray type set of holes on the tops of the short sides (the hybrid)

I totally skimmed over the 4 hole design when I read this too
Ended up making 8x 6 hole and 8x hybrid minis.

They've been working very well for my reishi grow.

I love the hybrids. What I think people get confused by is that this isn't really a tek. More a compilation of my thoughts on mini mono design. I would suggest that most designs can be made to work, but some are easier to dial in or maintain than others.

I will clean up the OP and make it more tek like when I have time. But for now it will need to make do.

Same here. Still rocking the minis and they work with all sorts of hole setups as do the larger bulk style monos! Minis have been awesome for testing and cloning cultures for future use. Even for the long time lurker but still learning growers such as myself.. but trust me that minis have huge benefits for someone wanting to understand more about cultivation with less margin of error.
