Nice... if we could ever figure a way to bloom them, yeah we'd get to the crossing point. I think we'll get there one day
Hey Jizz, you still out there? You ever see blooms on your big boy trees? Pine, dont you have a few large boys too? Same question

All my biggins died back to stumps. It got very cold and icy. I was thinking my biggest would have flowered this year if it didn't freeze. But I have no idea what age/size they begin to flower at so I could be way off it was around 14ft with a topping when it was about 6ft tall. Now it's a stump that's send up lots of shoots. Almost time to take clones. Someday I'll get to do some crosses.

Can't wait! If they get to growing hopefully some people could help determine species and check out differences? I wonder how well documented such species are..

I tried putting two small plants in hydro but they have wilted hard.. leaves are not lost yet though, I am bubbling and hoping they make it..
Nearly done finishing my humid tent so I can put some of these kratom plants in! Regulating that humidity will be the hardest part tho.

The small plants wilted in a bubbler setup? That is very strange, i find they allways perk up if i keep roots wet (from below in a bubbler setup), keep them warm, humid and have good light. The humid and warmth parts is important.
If not in hydro it´s easiest to aclimatise them too room humidity. That way one dont have to care about humidity tents, chambers and such. Grow them as houseplants in windows and under growlights. If you have the climate i guess outside is very good, nothing beats the good old sun.
But if one wants fastest growth possible use hydro with high humidity, warmth (28-35 degrees C) and good lightning. Grows like rockets...

Since the Daun Jambu is said to taking a longer time to grow, maybe we could graft them onto another strain and achieve the same results as growing it in soil. I'm not quite sure how big they'd have to be for one to be able to graft though as they can be a bit fragile when young.
My green malays are doing fine, slightly more than 20cm from leaf tip to leaf tip on the largest one. No sprouts yet from the Daun Jambu.

Well yeah, that is sad but true.
But it´s a tree, so it must grow big like a tree to do the sex/children stuff. But luckily it´s so easy to make cuttings. I think the long wait for flowers/seeds are the only downside with this plant. The rest is all good. Grows fantasticly fast, easy to make cuttings, have nice magic, looks good...

Kratom trees like to have sex too buddy as all angiosperms, flower production is necessary for passing on its dna. The question is... not sure if this has been discussed or not.... are they self fertile?
We'll get there one day... im curious if they bloom because of age or seasonal lighting/weather conditions.
One day. Well get there

I'm now the happy owner of some Daun Jambu seeds as well! Many thanks dude!

Also received some M. hirsuta & M. javanica seeds from a trade yesterday, Mitragyna excitement in full force right now

Prepared & sowed a bigger and better tray, with some microwaved soil like I did last year:

The seeds of these other species look very different from M. speciosa, there's still a bunch of those teardrop thingies you find in kratom pods and could mistake for seeds, but inside the small pods (much smaller than kratom) are reddish dot-like seeds for the hirsuta instead of the slithers you find in the speciosa equivalent of those pods. Javanica seems to have the same kind of slithers but much smaller.
Here's a comparison (ruler is in centimeters).
Mitragyna hirsuta

Mitragyna javanica

Looking very good MG Now, the only thing missing is the elephant variety with the huge leafs. It will only be a matter of time.
You have so many cool plants you could start a ethnobotanical garden and recieve visitors from all over the world. I wish i had as many cool plats as you do.

Thats whats up M.Green happy sprouting dude.
The hirsuta is a killer strain. Idk about potency and ingestibility, but as far as beauty is concerned, its a winner no doubt. Def has a grace to it that regular krat lacks. I had one from an online friend last season but the freeze, our country had this past winter, killed it back to the stump. Im patiently waiting for it to ressurect :twitchinglipbite:

I've not been able to find much yet on Daun Jambu but it seems very interesting!
Have received some seeds of that variety/species also, and also Red Malay. Amazing. Sowed some today.
I wonder if Daun Jambu is actually the same species?
Grafting sounds interesting but not easy. I would want to try the same with Salvia species.
Too bad they have to grow into trees (do bonsai count?) to breed.. it would be cool to try and cross them.

Solipsis, we've seen pics of the Daun Jambu motherplants in flower from the Malaysian farmer, it definitely seems to be M. speciosa, just of a noticeably different phenotype. The seeds match speciosa as well.
Not sure if a kratom bonsai old enough would flower, I doubt it but it'd be pretty cool haha.
One thing we are able to do though since we are collectively sowing so many seeds is selection, I'm sure a few special specimens should come out of it. Like especially red plants, trifoliates, more cold/drought hardy than the others etc...
@Lipa thanks dude, definitely hyped for the hirsuta, those big leaves look majestic.
@Mateo thanks for the kind words, I hope to maybe one day relocate to a warmer country where I could grow tropicals in the ground and maybe start an ethno nursery.

According to our friend here, the Malaysian farmer confirmed Daun Jambu to be Mitragyna Speciosa.
Im with MG, with the huge amount of seeds we together sow and grow, there must be a good chance some special ones come up. Mutations, polyploidity, varigated, extreme branching, all kinds of strange ones. These ones we should clone and share with eachother.
