Lipa, since you have a snail problem and where i live we have A LOT of murder snails (actually spanish woodsnails). I wonder if the copper tape is effective against them when put around a growbed? I have tried the snail bait granules thing and it works OK for the big ones but it is very expensive and dont seem to bother the small ones. I can´t grow anything without finding a way to keep them out.

Some Mitragyna seedlings uppdate
Closest is some Thai Red Vein/Maylaysian Red that had some desese that im trying to save and background is Green Malay. Its the only GM i have so i hope they make it, they were infected too.
Some TRV/MR that have recovered from the infection after i transplanted them, grows good now.
Riafats that i put in a DWC/Bubbler bucket. The big one har made an impressive rootsystem so i expect it to take off real good soon.
Riafat seedlings in soil. First one has produced a second branch. They are growing real good and fast now. Hard to believe these were just a mm big not long ago. I hope they grow good and fast now, it looks quite good.

Looking great Mateo! Nice job! I've never seen a seedling branch out so small, you should put some sort of mark on the pot to remember which one it is, could turn out to be some interesting bushy genetics.
edit: I really hope someone gets a trifoliate seedling out of the Malaysian seeds and is able to keep it alive and spread it, would be an amazing clone to put out.

Thanks. It´s when they have 3 leafs instead of two i guess, like a triangle seen from above? Like 3 leafs at every node i mean. Havent really studied all seedlings in detail. If i see any odd ones i can post pics.

I have bought copper tape and used it. I found its great for some stuff. Esp small potted cacti. I dont use it on large kratom containers though. It can help, no doubt. Although sometimes if those little bastards want to munch, theyll trudge through the copper tape moat and munch anyway i like to use a heavier copper wire and actually wrap it around the base of the plant/tree. Sometimes additional pieces layed along the soil bed. Ive used pennies (Amercian currency that is copper plated) and also scraps of copper pipe. I personally think it helps a lot. But that tape is just kind of whimmpy for larger plants for some reason. So maybe have a few more bullets in the chamber
Theres this copper mesh stuff on amazon that looks promising. It is expensive though. Twenty USD for however many feet of it. Also, look if snails are an issue and you set up the copper and are confident in its barrier properties... Its easy to forget about sometimes but watch out for zombie bridges. Where the tip of a branch is touching another, unprotected plant. Only to give those little bastards a clear course to raving havoc on your boys!
Also... excellent work on your seedlings brother

Lipa Kreepa said: As for removing the leaf from the plant, nothing fancy. A fingernail pressed into the petiole is simple enough. I wouldnt rip it off, but if its an older leaf, even that shouldnt be too big of an issue. As for when... well theres probably some grower debate on this, but personally, i only harvest the leaves when they are chlorotic and would likely fall on their own anyway. During winter or during trimming and cloning are a few exceptions. As well as leaf pressing for artwork. Its the same way i pick my tobacco leaves. Its fine to harvest green leaves though if youre growing organic(-ish). And as to how often... depends on the size of the tree. Kratom grows fast, yes... but it only goes so fast. So when its young, i wouldnt focus on harvests just yet. Maybe focus on clones... then when they start blowing up, you can have a taste of a harvest here and again. Also if you have several plants going at once (which is a very eAsy goal to attain by the time you get a little into your second growing season), then you may be able to get by w a few leaves off of each plant, here and there for a regular harvest. Though even w strength in numbers, when theyre small, Theyre only going to go so hard and be able to put out so much weight. Now... as a few of the kickass members, that follow and contribute to this thread, have shown... is that kratom can grow into very nice and large trees relatively fast. Trees where picking a few leaves off everyday would be possible... esp if his brothers and sisters were nearby to lessen the workload.
But ultimately... a regular harvest would require grower talent and some big buckets! Nevertheless, it can be done. luckily for us, kratom is a very easy plant to work with

Harvest intervals will be dictated by the size of your plant. I wouldn't strip anymore than Two thirds of the foliage, although I've seem plants stripped entirely return to normal in about 6 weeks, in the growing season.
Cool cool!...Thanks for the replies and info dudes .

Mateo, your seedlings look great. Impressed with the branch on that tiny seedling. Has anyone tried using mycorrhizae in their soil when growing Mitragyna Speciosa? Here's what my Green Malays looks like right now.

That seedling has become real big now. It´s fun to see them grow now when the growthrate has increased. One can see progress every day.
Mycorrhizae feels like it could be good with Mitragynas as long it can handle the very wet soil. I know too dry soil make the mycorrhiza dry out/die but with wet soil i have heard nothing negative. I read mycorrhiza isn´t used much with for example Lophs because the soil is too dry and the mycorrhiza disapears or dry out/dies, at least some of it. Sadly i haven´t got any mycorrhiza to try, if i had some i would try it for sure.
There must be mycorrhiza when growing mitragynas outside in the ground, but added to a pot is probably similarly helpful for the plant.

I used it last year. All I can say is my plants grew alot in one year. But I really don't know how much the mycorrhiza contributed.
My biggest trees and the ones that got hit hardest by the freeze are putting out slightly different color green growth with some brown. I'll take pictures but I think it's due to them being in full sun with some cold dry air mixed in between hot sunny days.

I use myco for most of my plants. Krats included. Mostly just mixed into my nutrient solution bucket for regular feeding.

I recognize those shells in that pachanoi pot. We have tons of them on our local beach. Back when I smoked herb I'd use the biggest ones I'd find as ash/roach trays . My job drug tests regularly. I miss it

Lipa, is that a piece of copper pipe that has grown into the base of the trunk?
Also, what is that in the white bucket, a Mitragyna Hirsuta? I dont recognise the leaf design.

I'm excited to finally grow my own Mitragyna speciosa! I received two Red Indo cuttings in the mail today, in pristine condition. They were planted in a mixture of equal parts organic potting soil, coco coir and perlite with an added handful of dried cow manure.
