I can attest that leaves from seedlings less than 6 months old do produce alkaloids and are relatively potent, I've had worse commercial kratom (and some much better ones too ofc), Got a pretty big habit & tolerance and 4 - 5 grams dry were enough to be felt. Chewing a couple fresh leaves works great too, feels more stimulating but less analgesic.

As my trees become bigger and bigger living in the ground I just protect the stump from the cold. It won't freeze back every year so some years the canopy will live other years they die back to stumps.

Welcome to the thread, and nice BB tree

Hey meangreen, glad to hear a few of your stumps are resurrecting from the dead
Its a waiting game on a lot of my stumps too. I think ive seen growth on one or two of them, but at night the fucking snails and maybe rollypollys are munching them down
Luckily for me, a few have come back... even if i needed to construct a moat of copper for two of them my rifat is killing it though and at least one bb is back in action. The hirsuta is the one in the most question
I aint tripping on the stumps though... i strated w one and now i may have to start again worse case scenario, i toss em if they dont pup and i have a lot more room for the tomato project i started recently
Bb stump.

Rifat.

Another back from the dead. (See what i mean about the copper )

Just starting to pup... hopefully it makes it further along w out the snails getting to it.

A lot more are pretty darn close it looks. Check out how green and ready these stumps are looking.

Container grown plants are rich in alkaloids. You don't need big trees to obtain this. Getting a cutting/clone from an already mature plant will ensure the alkaloid profile is strong. Clones carry the mother plants chemical profile. Kratom can be cut back to help keep the plants manageable. Probably wise to renew the plants from cuttings every 4-5 years, this will help with not having massive pots to move around and will keep the growth vigorous.
Sweet! Thanks for the reply. That's basically what I was wondering about.
And that makes sense to make new cuttings/plants every several years.
Another random question to who ever...This is something random that I've wondered about for a while now, what is the average weight of a single leaf lol? Wet and/or dry? I know the size can vary quite a bit, but just wondering if any of ya'll have weighed em' ?

I never weighed a single leaf to see... but i wanna say its not much. I assume we are talking dry weigh here, yes?
I might have a pressed, dried one on hand. Hang tight.

Okay. So the larger one was 0.7g and the two smaller ones were around 0.3-0.4g. Theyre super light weight. And these are w the veins... which i will happily consume as well. Not the petioles, but the leaf stem. Yep
Couldnt get the glare off the display reading on the sclae for photos. So youll have to take my word for it

Here is a link to a scientific paper about tissue culture of Mitragyna Speciosa. Apperantly they got high Mitragynine content in regenerated plants just 5 months old. Maybe it is of interest to someone here.
M_Speciosa Hairy Root Culture for Triterpenoid Production and high yield of mitragynine by regenarated plants
We should start a thread about tissue culture and micropropagation. I am going to do some experiments in this field and it would be nice to share some ideas and info.

Finally got around to sowing some Green & Red Malay seeds as my grow tent is back uo and running. Happy to say I noticed the little sprouts a couple days ago. Also repotted a couple of super rootbound cuttings that survived overwintering.

Good luck with the seedlings. You are going to have to transplant them later as it will be quite crowded in those pots after a while. Plz post pics as they progress. I can post some uppdated pics of my seedlings tomorrow.

Thanks for taking the time to do that , even posting pics for size reference .
Sounds like 3 leafs would be plenty for me. 1.5g to 2g is what works for me.
Another random question for the thread....Plucking leafs to consume, I'm assuming this can't be done frequently (several times a week) unless the tree is pretty big? Is there a certain way/regimen where some leaf can be "harvested" from the tree a few times during the growing season while still allowing the tree to survive & thrive...?....Like every few weeks a certain portion of the leafs are plucked, etc...Just curious how I can have the trees growing happily and how often & how much leaf I could pluck.
I'm mostly interested in just being able to grow these trees and having them "on hand"....but of course I do want to reap the medicine they provide from time to time.

I knew I wasn't crazy. I threw a couple leafs in my cheek that came off of my rifat and it gave me a relaxed feeling. It didn't last forever, but I know I felt something come over me. This was way before I had access to any powdered leaf.

As for removing the leaf from the plant, nothing fancy. A fingernail pressed into the petiole is simple enough. I wouldnt rip it off, but if its an older leaf, even that shouldnt be too big of an issue. As for when... well theres probably some grower debate on this, but personally, i only harvest the leaves when they are chlorotic and would likely fall on their own anyway. During winter or during trimming and cloning are a few exceptions. As well as leaf pressing for artwork. Its the same way i pick my tobacco leaves. Its fine to harvest green leaves though if youre growing organic(-ish). And as to how often... depends on the size of the tree. Kratom grows fast, yes... but it only goes so fast. So when its young, i wouldnt focus on harvests just yet. Maybe focus on clones... then when they start blowing up, you can have a taste of a harvest here and again. Also if you have several plants going at once (which is a very eAsy goal to attain by the time you get a little into your second growing season), then you may be able to get by w a few leaves off of each plant, here and there for a regular harvest. Though even w strength in numbers, when theyre small, Theyre only going to go so hard and be able to put out so much weight. Now... as a few of the kickass members, that follow and contribute to this thread, have shown... is that kratom can grow into very nice and large trees relatively fast. Trees where picking a few leaves off everyday would be possible... esp if his brothers and sisters were nearby to lessen the workload.
But ultimately... a regular harvest would require grower talent and some big buckets! Nevertheless, it can be done. luckily for us, kratom is a very easy plant to work with

Harvest leaves from the bottom of the branch seems to work well. Leave the tips alone to photosynthesize. Older leaves seem more bitter and useful than newer ones.
Harvest intervals will be dictated by the size of your plant. I wouldn't strip anymore than Two thirds of the foliage, although I've seem plants stripped entirely return to normal in about 6 weeks, in the growing season.

been noticing pieces of my seedlings leaves were missing over the past few days, didn't see anything when i looked it over before, so i just thought it was some grass hopper or something, today noticed some more was missing and found a inch worm looking caterpillar eating the leaf..so i fed it to my pitcher plant. (also if you feed caterpillars to carnivorous plants be sure to squish them first or they will just eat their way out.)
