I hope the videos of the talks come out on youtube, I really enjoyed the previous ones. Trout's presentation on lophophora environment was amazing for example.
I definitely will come down to an EGA one day. Really seems like an amazing gathering! Just a matter of timing, and funds considering Oz is basically on the other side of the globe for me and the tickets aren't cheap even though I'm certain they're worth every penny.
Thanks. My talk was about Psilocybin Mushrooms of Australia, just under 2 hours. It was filmed and might make it to youtube. I'm still considering how much I want to come out of the closet, so to speak. I'm currently crawling out from the underground and into the public light, I want to do it in a way that wont offend the conservatives, my reputation, or hurt the contacts I have. All the other talks were filmed and will be released on the EGA youtube channel in time. The entire symposium is run by volunteers so things don't happen right away.
If you make it down I'll help you out, as would the SAB crew. Next one might be in a few years, give or take a year. It's truly one of the best events I've ever been to and run by some awesome humans.

Two weeks old Green Malays. Some algea has started to develop in the soil. I guess this is because the soil is too wet. Is this a problem for now or can I just continue as usual?

I can definitely imagine it must be hard to get in the public light with those touchy subjects, and much respect to you for doing it.
Thanks a lot for the offer to help, much appreciated! I'll definitely let you know if I make it down there.

In my experience algae can definitely be an issue with kratom seedlings, some of mines had leafburns because of it, and I'm fairly sure a few died as well. Here's a pic of the type of damage I'm talking about:
3 days later, leafburns:
Maybe try some diluted peroxide to kill the algae, or maybe a dusting of diatomaceous earth to dry up the soil a bit more.

If hydrogen peroxide is OK for the seedlings its a very good idea. Any ideas of % to try with?
I would try scrape off the algae where it can be done and then try some weak peroxide solution. If it doesn´t work good maybee you should try transplant them to new soil. Delicate procedure when they are this small. Maybe try on a few first?
I wonder how fast they can be aclimatized to a little dryer soil.

I have no idea on percentage honestly, trying it on a small patch first is a good idea. Scraping the algae too. I would wait to see if the first signs of damage appear before doing anything drastic though, could be another more harmless species of algae than the one I had.
You can very easily acclimate them to drier soil, I forgot to water small seedlings many times and they do perfectly fine for at least 24h in pretty damn dry soil I'd say.
Probably not the best growing conditions though, but soaking wet soil isn't either, at least not at that age I believe. Gotta find a middle ground.

I have my pots in a mini seedling greenhouse and have water in the bottom of the greenhouse tray. This means the pots are allways wet and the seedlings like it. But it must be a paradise for algae type stuff also. Since i don´t see any new seedlings come up i think i will take away the water in the bottom of the greenhouse tray. And try get them more used to a little drier soil conditions. I don´t have any algae yet but i guess it is just a matter of time.

I did sow a second batch of Green Malay seeds about a week ago and today i saw first small green leaves. At least 40+ but its hard to count when so small and some are just a tiny green thing not even developed leaves yet. I post some pics i a day or 2 when they have become little bigger. If they all make it i going to have a lot of small mitragynas soon. Looking forward to that.

Nice mitragyna, DGB
My red veins i had before was more reddish on the veins and the stem. But that might be different plant to plant and also has a lot to do with environmental conditions. My guess it will get more reddish veins when its little bigger. It was some years ago i had these, i might remember wrong. The leaf shape shurely looks like a typical red vein.
I wish i had one like yours in my possesion now, maybe in the future.

Very nice Mateo! Hope to show the same very soon.
Here's the winter damage so far, most of my plants have gone deciduous. They've been spending the winter in a neighbour's veranda, it's about 10-15°C in there.
A few seedlings did keep their leaves so at least now I identified my hardiest rifat genetics:
Here are the plants that spent the winter in my grow tent in comparison:
Red & Green Indo seedlings:
A few rifat cuttings:
I had to move all my plants to that veranda because my basement where the grow tent is got flooded pretty bad, my plants were floating in 30cm of water... Hooe they won't mind the sudden environment change. Here's my street right now:

You have pretty many Mitragynas i see and many varietys, nice. Thats a lot of water, the river/canal flooded with water i assume. Is your house alright? Basement flooded, doesnt sound good. I hope it will be alright in the end and your house dont float away.
Do the winter damaged Mitragynas survive things like this? They dont look good, My experience with mitragynas is they dont like colder temps at all. I guess if they have gotten pretty big, some cold maybe but not much. Maybe they can be aclimatized to more colder environment. The ones i had before didnt like cold at all, especially the Thai red vein. I had Riafats growing in my livingroom window doing alright but the Thai red vein couldn´t take same conditions. And that was inside but it was very dry air in winter time.
I hope all your plants will recover. You seem to have quite a few, it´s a fun hobby.

Thankfully I saw it coming so I was able to move most things in time, the only thing is I wasn't able to move my growtent, no way I could move the 60l hydro reservoir in it. Just hope the tent won't rust or mold...

Thank you, I definitely think they will pick back up and start new growth in the Spring, at least I hope so. There might be a bit of dieback but I think they'll make it. I have some alive cuttings of most of them anyway.
I have a few more inside the house
Ferrel, yours go deciduous every year and pull through don't they?

I think most of my trees survived the worst freeze in decades. Ill find out in a month or so which ones wake up and how far back they died. Most concerned about GM
