That would be a nice goal, Mitragynas are wonderful plants.

Green Malay - sowed 15/1-18

Rifat - sowed in xx/10-17. Growing quick now compared to earlier. In another month I hope to have the third set of leafes. The bigger leafes on the one in focus is actually the second set of leafes - perhaps that is obvious

Did you just get back from the rice fileds Lipa.
Question to anyone with experience. How well does actively growing kratom root if just placed in water. No bubblers, water will be changed periodically.

Edit: Misread the question. Thought you wondered how well it grew, not rooted I think Mateo tried growing Kratom hydroponically a few years ago, allthough he may have used DWC and not the Kratky method. I guess it should be OK as long as not the entire root system is submerged in water. As you probably are aware there has to be some air getting to the roots or they'll die due to the lack of oxygen

They root well. Ive done it with mitragyna hirsuta.

Thanks, ferrel. Makes things a bit easier, not that rooting in soil is difficult. I'll take some cuttings tonight.

Good luck Karode! First time taking cuttings? Is the general rule for taking kratom cuttings to have three nodes on the branch you're going to root? I remember reading that somewhere

No. I've taken hundreds before but only done them in soil. If I can do them in just water it will cut down the materials, space used and hopefully less time tending to them, which will fit into my man of leisure lifestyle. I wish, back to work today.

I think the ultrasonic cloner Micaele built in the DIY section would be perfect for fast developing roots on Mitragyna. Soil works very well so i havent tried with water but no reason it shouldn´t work. The main thing with rooting kratom cuttings i have found to be humidity and temp. Rooting hormones does not seem to be needed.
Growing them in DWC work very well for Mitragynas.

Water logged worm casing in a clear box. Don't open or do anything for 2 weeks minimum. After 2 weeks cull the dead and close it for 2 more weeks then gently pull on them if they come up trim stem back to living tissue. I know it's not water rooting but it works well and very low maintenance. I don't mist them at all

Krat will root. They certainly will. Patience is key though. Something like Pot can root in less than a week, basil can root in an even shorter window than that, whereas krat has taken me (on average, give or take a small bit) over two months time. I like to not hit them too hard w light as it seems to zap out all the chlorophyl and can push for a loss. I haven't tried rooting them in straight water, only coco in a sealed humidity container. Patience is the name of the game. If doing it in humidity domes, just be sure to keep up with mistings and maybe not overload the light. If youre lazy like me and dont feel like misting, just burp and blow some fresh air in there theyre easy to forget about honestly, so maybe have where its more visible
Good luck on the cuttings man
And it feels good to be back.

Thanks for all the feedback team. I've been too busy from work and we've got a heatwave on the way. Will take these after the weekend and report back.

Aeroponic cloners are the way to go for kratom cuttings ime, had 100% success on 9 cuts in about 2-3 weeks, using clonex:

I stumbled upon this video today, not sure how I didn't find it before. But it shows a huge kratom tree basically growing as an aquatic plant in a river in Indonesia and thriving. Overwatering definitely can't be an issue I guess haha.

I like the video below about the high and the low alkaloid content He says the older the branch the higher the alkaloid. How cool.

Batch one of the Green Malay sown 15/1 I've counted 42 of these

Batch two of the Green Malay sown 16/1 More than 25 of these sprouted last night. I've counted them to 32

Which brings me to a total of 74 Green Malays

The three months old Rifats
 Getting quite big now!
