Preparing for a freeze. Any tips on taking and striking cuttings in the winter?

Best of luck man winter cuttings are tough to root. My experience is bring them inside to root during winter but even that's slow. A heat mat and putting then under lights would help. I'll never take cuttings past September too slow to root and grow in winter.
I'm putting pipe insulation on the trunks of my trees, covering them with plastic sheeting, and running oil filled radiant heaters next to them. I'll burn some chimenas to keep other plants warm. I figure if I can save the trunks I'm doing alright.
I think they would die back pretty far if I did nothing but still come back my the senna alata.

Did you guys hear that Kratom is now legal in it's raw form in Tennessee? How exciting! Also, it is legal to possess the plant now too.

Sowed Mirtagyna seeds 6 days ago and so far nothing. How long can one expect until at least one or a few seeds sprout/germinate? And, does this time to germinate vary vith how fresh the seeds are? Seems reasonable that older seeds take more time.
I really hope a few sprouts at least.

Does anyone know what happened to ThumbPrint? He hasn't been online in many months and we still have a trade that hasn't been closed.

Hmm, probably noo good seeds then. 10 days since i sowed then and still nothing.
I have ordered 2 new seedpods from another vendor, i hope it goes better. I won´t give up, but if these doesn´t germinate either maybe i have to wait for warmer weather so i can order a plant or rooted cutting.
I will try to "hormonize" some seeds, maybe it helps.

Thumbprint and I traded twice successfully. This 3rd trade it's been many months since I sent my end and right after he received it is when he went MIA. I've only heard from him a couple times and that was months ago. It's not a big deal in the sense of time, $, and effort but more so morally. From what I gathered from conversation with him he hit a rough spot in life. Who knows maybe he will show up one day.
If my kratom trees survived the freezes I'll have a lot of clones if I cut on them. Probably snip a few off the lower branches in hopes of getting some flowers on two different trees this year. Hopefully green Malaysian x bumble bee

He/she probably shows up after a while. If he has done some OK trading in the past it´s probably not because of the trade he is offline. Probably some personal probs and he must heal a bit before caring about all wordly problems. I know how it feels to hit rock bottom, one just haven´t the power to deal with everything.

I've gotten seeds to sprout that has been in the soil for more than two months. However most tend to sprout in about 10 days give or take. I've found that for the seeds to sprout, giving them a lot of water seems to help.

High humidity helps. You are correct on this.

Found an old seed bag from last summer with plenty of seeds in, so I threw them into some soil today. The ones that sprouted about 2.5 months ago just started to develop their second set of leaves. I've tried taking a picture of it, but the new set is hard to get a focus on with my camera

Try a magnifying glass to take a pic. Did that once and it worked pretty well.

This is one of the pictures I took earlier today. It's hard to tell, but if you look at the two marked ones, with some imagination you can see the new set of leaves

I also have 1 very tiny growth thing with 2 leaves, very similar to your picture. And in another bowl some, also tiny, growth that more is like a bent straw. 1-1.5mm max. If im lucly it might be the real thing...

Just saw this. Great minds think alike as I went with pipe insulation and blue tarp myself.
The other year with a harder but shorter freeze all of mine died back to the base and I lost one in a 10 gallon pot.
This year I am not sure how bad the damage was at the trunk level, but my plants fared worse than I was expecting because we hit lower temps for longer than expected. Smaller unprotected branches definitely got hit hard and I saw a lot of the kratom "sap" I saw the other year. Harvested all of the leaves the second day of the freeze. Unfortunately I didn't have time to harvest the sap before the rain washed it away. I wanted to have it analyzed for alkaloids.
I usually try to take cuttings between July and September as that is when I definitely have the best luck as well.
I had to cut the crown off of one to cover it and divided it up into some single node cuttings sitting in water. I doubt any will root, but I'll update if they do.
Hope yours did OK!
