So I've set up a propagation chamber.

I first wiped my cuttings down with some hydrogen peroxide to try to reduce infection. Then I dipped in some rooting hormone, and stuck the stems in perlite. And then I watered a little.
The propagation chamber is just a clear box with about half a centimeter of water on the ground. There's also a heating mat below. The mat evaporates the water and keeps the humidity around 95% (although the sensor I'm using isn't very good above 80%, so I'll have to get a better one). The temperatures are also around 27ºC with this setup.
However, I think I should drill holes to allow more CO2 to come in, or something… How much of holes should I drill and where?
And should I keep watering the cuttings?
And is half a centimeter of water at the bottom too much?
Thanks y'all.

Hey guys btw I think my big plant is going to die. I've tried everything, thought about building a greenhouse, but the logistics just don't work out. I also can't move it inside, because I don't have any space. I literally dont know what to do. Should I just kind of cover it in polyethylene film? Like make sort of a bag or something? I bought film thats 10 feet wide by 25 feet long so I think I could make a big enough bag… The plant is about 4 feet wide and 4 or 5 feet tall by now.

You should try covering it with frost protection cloth (something like this: http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/category/plant-protection-fabric).
I would also wrap the whole pot and top of the soil in a thick black thrash bag, wrapping around the trunk. The should prevent it from getting damaged by frost. It might lose its leaves (not such a bad thing hey) but it probably won't die.

What is your expected low temperature, how long, and how many days of the year? What is the expected average high and low for winter in your area?
If you have $30-$40(less if you go to resaleshop) buy a radiant oil filled heater. You DO NOT want a heater that blows hot air, it will dry your plant out. The heater + your pe cold frame could very well save your plants. Keep the roots and trunk warm above everything else. If possible move your plants as close to the house as possible and on the side with less wind.
There are heating systems on the market for keeping pipes/trees warm. Where I work a lot of the piping has 'heat tracing' so they don't freeze. Basically it's a copper wire that runs/wraps around the piping and acts as a giant resistor turning electrical energy into thermal energy.
Best of luck and I hope your kratom survives!

My area isn't that cold, it doesnt frost, but there are points during the night that reach 7ºC or lower. Looking at a graph right now, it seems like the average nightly temperature for January is around 10ºC or so, and I'd say during the day for that time of the year 15ºC.

My kratom plant (Rifat?) is still doing ok but it is definitely showing the effects of the very dry air in my winter home. Does anyone have tips for growing in doors / in dry climates?

Mine live outside and in ground or big tubs and are exposed to 3°c several times a year and live through it. When it gets below 3 I'll cover what I can. I know members here had their plants frozen to ground level and they came back. These were in ground plants they told me about.

I'm in Alaska... the ground freezes solid for up to 9 months at a time.
Outside is not an option for me.
I think I may build a mini humidity dome for them to live in during the winter when it gets very dry indoors.

Hey everyone, thanks for the suggestions! I put the plant near my house, in a spot that gets an okay amount of sunlight, and then made a huge bag out of polyethylene 6mil. It's rather thick, so hopefully it'll retain some heat. Hopefully watering it and the heat will cause a good amount of humidity. I didn't make any vents though, so I don't know how often I have to replace the air… maybe I'll cut a hole or something.
Anyway, I plan to also build a little arduino thing to monitor the humidity and temperature inside the bag. I'll probably set up a wifi module too so I can take a look at the graph remotely…

You've got an even harsher climate than me. I've put min under a glass dome next to a radiator, that gives it a good humidity and keeps the heat on a nice level

Hey everyone, I was hoping I could throw a quick update out there and see if I could get any feedback. I know kratom will go dormant in the winter when grown in the states, but I'm in Texas and it has been really warm all winter so far. It does get cold at night, but I've been bringing my plant inside at night and then back outside in the morning for some sun. I would think that my plant should still be doing pretty good if not essentially the same as it was during the summer, but it has taken a pretty quick turn and isn't looking so good. It has a lot of dead tissue on the leaves, which have slowly been falling off. I'm just a little concerned as she is still so young and vulnerable. Does it look like it could still just be going dormant or is there something else I am missing and/or should be doing? Thanks!

Mine have minor cold damage like that. Should be fine but dont tesst the waters as it doesnt seem to have such a woody stem. All of mine have grown well here in south texas but they have good trunks on them and go deciduous.
Goodluxk with it.

So you think it would be better to just keep it inside to avoid all cold weather and just let it do its thing and go dormant or whatever?

It all depends on where you are and how hard your winter is. Im gulf south and our winters arent that bad. Growth is still slow and sometimes dormant regardless. The leaves change color and burn up. Krats are very sensitive to cold temps. Im w ferrel, that if the plant has a thicker, matured stem it can handle the temp drop, if its under this point... then it become more of a concern. Likely the leaves will fall off completely or damn near.
If it were me, id take it inside. Do you have any experience growing plants indoors? Equiptment on hand?

Hey thank you guys a ton! I really appreciate it. I kind of figured it could be a reaction to some of the brief temperature drops, which may cause the leaves to begin to die off and drop regardless. I have experience growing plants inside, but unfortunately I do not have much equipment at this time. I will look into getting a light, I don't mind throwing a little cash down to get a little grow light in the hopes of helping my Kratom plant. One thing I will say, is that I will be much less stressed when I have a few of these guys growing strong and healthy and not just one baby plant... Thanks again!
