Thanks Lipa! Have been reading your posts with a lot of interest, they go back to the early days of this thread... much to learn It's great when people have a specialty and share knowledge here from people with different specialties and backgrounds cool community
Waiting now on my seeds to germinate, some sowed normally and others on agar medium... the anticipation haha!
Gotta admit I have no idea whether you have to strip a bush bare to get a dose, but honestly that is never why I grow these sorts of plants although it would be a cool bonus.
By the way, that rifat doesn't really look red-veined, feral... I thought it was one of those varieties?

Best of luck on the seed project good vibes your way
As far as doses... i usually just pick off the yellowing leaves as the days go by... let them dry out on a shelf, no need for a fan. Then finish them off in a desiccant tub. I just keep on filling that tub until its full. Then i coffee mill it and move to storage for future use. I dont think ive ever stripped one clean for a dose. Id advise against removing anything significant until theyve got a few branches and are getting more mature... when theye young and get a heavy trim, they dont always bounce back that quick... sometimes not at all if i could suggest anything, is to let your plants get big enough for taking a few SUCCESSFUL clones, then start thinking about picking for pleasure yield weight is directly proportionate to the width amd height of the tree. So go for big pots when theyre ready for that stage. You wont regret it! Anyhow, please keep us update and let us know how it goes. Im interested in hearing more about this agar seed grow. Ive never worked w agar and have never heard of using it for plants, right on
As far as red veins go... a plant can exhibit red, green, yellow, and white viens all on the same plant. It can be somewhat unpredictable how one lew leaflet or a mature leaf's viens will turn out, colorwise. Typically the new tips have a reddish hue, but not all the time. There are some species which ae anlittle more prone to one or the other genetic trait... but for rifat and bumblebee, theres often a bit of diversity.

Lipa Kreepa said: That leaf tip looks good. Healthy you ask? Yes it appears to be. No sign of anything serious although it does look like it has some tissue damage. This looks like maybe it was an injury from being bent or poked or something. Aside from that, maybe theyres some snail or catepillar damage on a few of the larger leaves.. in the background. Copper wire ornaments is good for snails... as well as late night murder sessions with a flashlight and a shameless pair of boots... for ratapillers, i like to use a BT foilar spray. Other than all that, your plant looks good. I havent been on the site in a while. Good to see a few new faces in hea. A belated Welcome aboard
Thanks for the resonse and warm welcome
Yea im not worried about the old growth, just want to make sure the new stuff is coming in ok now that they're in my care.
I think the tissue damage was caused by a prior tussle with aphids. Theyre all cleaned up repotted and in my grow room.
Positive note all the new stuff is coming in unaffected and looks great. The plant pitcured is even starting to branch out so maybe time to try and top it/clone it.
Do you guys train your kratom in anyway? I dont have alot of vertical room so im thinking some toping and LST should keep them short and bushy. What you guys think?

I topped one at 5ft and now it's about 14ft. Other than that I just take clones off them and let them grow. One of my bumble bees is growing all over the place I'll be doing some serious air layering and clones come spring to get it to look more like a tree like the others.
With taking proper clones and lst you will get an extremely bushy plant. Just keep an eye out for mealy bugs. The love hiding in the dense growth. I inspect my plants once every week or so and kill them. If you stay on top of it they won't get that bad.

I grow all of my plants indoors for now. Once the kratom get too big to contain theyll go outdoors, so ill keep that mealy bug issue in mind, thanks.
Ill let it grow another week or so before i top it then ill probably tie it down soon after that.

My room has like 450watts of LED panels in it covering about a 4x4x8 area. A marshydro 150w reflector and a marshydro 300watt full spectrum panel.

I've only rooted under some t5's over winter. They rooted and stayed alive. Other than that never had them under anything but the sun. Keep us posted on the rate of growth man

Sure will. Theyd probably grow faster under actual sun but alas its approaching winter now anyway. Here are some shots from today. The biggest one in the middle is the rifat that had the funky new growth but the newest set of leaves althought still small and encased seem to be healthly

I just need to get more soil and bigger pots very soon.

What zone do you live in? My green Malaysians grow really fast but are more susceptible to the cold than the others I have. Once it hits 40 degrees they start dropping the oldest leafs. Rifat and bumble bee are more hardy. Not chancing the aoe and hirsuta to anything under 40 until next year. Nice pink indo. I've been hoping to find a nice pink indo clone for trade. I refuse to pay some of the prices people are asking unless it's a truly unique kratom. I paid top dollar for my GM but it came direct from the motherland the guts brother sent it to him.

Isn't something like CFL great for germinating and the seedling stage? I assume you don't put them in such bright light when they are young or do you? I don't know any plant you wanna do that with

I've had good luck germinating under t5's and cfl. But I do most of my sowing outdoors under filtered light. The only time I tried growing Kratom from seed I got 0 germination from domestic seed(usa). Maybe I'll find some good seed from over seas and give it a shot this spring. But my hands are full of cactus and other ethnos

So I took a cutting, added a little bit of rooting hormone, and put it in perlite. Then put it in my temporary humidity chamber. but it doesn’t quite fit... can I clip the leaves?

Usually when i clone plants i clip the bottom leaves in half to limit the plants respiration. Im sure you could also do this with kratom, just dont cut the top leaves.

Yeah you can cut them I've rooted them clipped and unclipped for several different varieties. Even rooted a leafless stick last year.
My kratoms are still growing pretty good. The nodes are getting closer and closer together with each set of leafs so they are definitely slowing down. Next front that drops the temperature below 40f and the Green Malaysians won't have many leafs until spring. When we get down into the mid 30's I'll cover the ones I can, if it's going to get below freezing I'll put my radiant heaters next to the trunks so they don't die back to ground level. I have a gigantic roll of 4mil plastic, heaters, and extension cords that I keep on hand in case it snows(unlikely but it does happen once every 10 or 20 years) that I can cover and heat my plants with.
