That is a beast indeed. Was that the same little baby he had at the start of this thread? That plant kicks some serious ass

Getting quite chilly here in the south this week... last night my rifat was out in the 55 degree cool night. I noticed this morning the leaves were curling out on the edges. It looks like the low tonight will be slightly under 50. I should probably bring it inside, right?
On a good note, it appears to be setting out two branches, woo hoo! The weather here is crazy so i'm sure we'll warm up again and it will have more time to grow before going inside for the fall/winter. Going to get a light for it and my other cold sensitive plants eventually.

Your kratom can handle temps down to 40 and survive. Frost will kill it. The way I see it, any exposure to cold will just get the process of going dormant started. So, if your plants are small you should bring them in at night, and put them out in the day. Doing this may get you a few extra weeks of growth. Larger plants survive the winter and dormancy better than small plants. Ive kept kratom under a light during the winter, it usually doesn't go well. But, my failure is because I wasn't able to provide warmth and humidity. I always end up with spider mites on all of my kratom trees every winter too. It's not a big deal, I expect it, and they always bounce back in the spring. This winter I'm keeping a few small plants (recently rooted) in a phototron that was given to me. I'll keep a pan of water on top of a heat mat for warmth and humidity. Any plant over a foot tall will just go to sleep in my basement.

Thanks! I was under the impression that anything under 60 is dangerous. I have a humidifier and a small room that gets quite warm in the winter due to the full sun that comes through the window. Last year, It never really got that cold until the very tail end of December. I am hoping I can get some more growing time out of it before It has to come in full time. My plant is about 10.5" tall now and is making two branches and has two sprouts on each side above the lowermost leaves. I'm guessing those are going to be branches too.

It seems like it takes about 4-6 weeks for mine to go dormant once I bring them in. I'm basing that on water consumption, or lack there of. I only have to water mine once every 2 or 3 weeks once January comes. I'm going to cut mine back and pick most of the leaves in a few weeks and dry them on the floor where the plants will spend the winter. I've got 3 large Bumble Bees and I'm going to butcher the shit out of one of them, for science. I've decided that I've only got room for 2 of each strain, so it won't be so bad if it goes bad, but I think it will do just fine. It's getting surprisingly cool here in the southeast, it may happen sooner than later. Last year they stayed out until the end of October.

Here's my small Rifat. I've tried to make myself a makeshift green house with a 1180lm 6500k lamp, hopefully it will be enough for him to survive the long winter. I'm expecting temperatures between -20 to -5°C from later september to late april with only a few hours of sunlight per day, so I reckon he's not going to survive if he doesn't get any artificial light

That is a long winter, yes. I'm at roughly 63°N, so it's pretty far north (Big GOT fan). Do you reckon it will do, or should I get some more light? I've been thinking about getting myself like a 300/600W LED to grow other things aswell during the winter season

Six days ago (Mon 4/9-17) I planted 12 pots with mitragyna seeds. 9 with Rifat and 3 with RVT. In each pot, I put between 7-10 seeds into soil. This is the second time I try to germinate mitragyna seeds and after getting some critique on my soil, I went with something called "Seedling soil", I'm not sure if it's called that in other countries. It's basically a fine meshed soil with low nutritional value and a bit of fine grained sand blended into it. The soil I used the first time was "urn soil" (perhaps graveyard soil?) which is very rough and jagged but has a high nutritional content. However.. Today, I noticed that 11 of the seeds has started to sprout, all of which are from the Rifat strain.
This is a much better result than I got from the first time around, where I planted more than double the amount of seeds and managed to get a total of 4 seeds to sprout.
I do seem to have a problem with my biggest plant. It seems to have a few leaf scorches which has came about in the past 2 days.
I'm not feeling super optimistic about these scorches and was wondering if anyone had any idea what may have caused it. I've done some Googling around and it seems that drench, sunlight/heat or too much nutrients could be the problem. I've heard that Mitragyna can handle a lot of wetness, but I've stopped misting it as much in order to see if that's what caused it. I've stopped the lamp from running 24/7, because I guess tiny Mitragynas in the natural environment are often surrounded by larger trees and perhaps they can't handle too much light. Also, the lamp was giving off some heat.

i had to plant a three year old bumblebee in the ground last spring, it was not happy in the pot, and starting to die so i planted in the ground. it improved almost overnight, we get maybe 2-3 weeks freezing, so we'll see how it does, i'll take cuttings soon just in case.
