I have a tall lanky bumble b that I thought was finally going to start filling in around the bottom because it had a tiny new growth and I was trying to shake off some excess diatomaceous earth that I had dusted it with and.......
and I.....
I knocked off the new growth.....

At what stage in the plants development do indoor lights become inefficient?
Good question. I'd say after if hits somewhere around the two foot mark. Maybe even little before then. This was almost three years ago so I'm not 100% but two feet stands out as the cut off point. I. Noticed it didn't really grow that much more and was stalling out. Luckily by then it was spring and it all fit together nicely. If one were to top it perhaps it could be kept longer indoors. I didn't top mine though... I was too freaked over the idea of messing him up but given hoW tough krat really is, something I later learned, I'm sure it would handle it just fine.. Given it had a few leafsets and was in a good spot. Actually that plant looked fucking beautiful indoor. The leaves were so lush and green! It was quite the stunning and refreshing sight I imagine one could go longer indoor given they grew with a better quality light down the line. But given the small size of my apartment, the CFL was all I could real!y stand... Unless I wanted to rock sunglasses inside all the time its a shame because I have a super chill LED light I've been wanting to use and never had the chance to.... One day bro... One day

Thanks for that info man
I'm hoping mine will be happy with 9 months of warm outdoor temps for the season, and 3 months of indoor fluorescent time, only time will tell

Please help if you can... Kratom plant in ICU! Can I pick anyone's brain. I just received a small clone and unfortunately it snapped in half in transit (no fault to the sender). What I've got is one leafless stem, still rooted in damp soil AND a one 2-inch stem with 2 leaves and tiny top new growth.
Regarding the top half: Should I try a rooting agent on the top? Should I stick in rock wool? Should I stick it in a neoprene collar in a "fogponic" setup?
Regarding the bottom-rooted half; Leave it in the damp soil? Wash soil off roots and transfer to neoprene collar and fogponic set up? Put into hydroton media in a drip hydroponic system?
This tree spent 3 days in transit: Use nutrients now or wait till later? I have a full-spectrum, white-bulb led light, (or CFL) normally you're supposed to do indirect light for a week or two, but not sure in this case. I cannot put it outside, too cold where I live.
Equipment I've got everything for the scenarios above, except rooting gel. Has anyone had success with certain brands? (are brand questions allowed? sorry, still new here)
OR, are these a loss? I hate to give up on plant life. Sorry this is long, but I wanted to be thorough, just in case anyone had some ideas. Thanks!

Well it still has nodes so i wouldnt stress too much. Eventually it will grow from those points.
That top will root just fine. You can use a rooting hormone to help it along. Transit sucks sometimes. And it happens. Just deal with it soon to minimize anymore damage. Youll be fine.

I mentioned above that I knocked off a tiny new growth from a node at the bottom of my tall lanky Bumble b... do you guys think it will still sprout out of that same spot even though I broke the new growth off?
Has this happen to anyone in the past?
Thanks

I never used rockwhool only coco coir and perlite... With a tendency to favor coco... But rock whool might work. First off get the top half out the cup of water. Get some wet coco or even wet rockwhool... By wet I mean moist and well drained in a small pot with some drainage holes... Place this is a sealed rubbermade container. Use a small one if you can. It will lock in the moisture really well. Plastic quart cups you get at restaurants are what I use... Cleaned of course with the matching flat lid. Keep this anywhere from 7"-1' away from a floro bulb. The compact Floros are great (the spiral ones). Leave under there on a cycle of something like 14+hrs of light a day. The schedule is not super crucial. It can be w/e is best for you. Just give it some dark hours too.
When assembling clone, make a fresh cut at lowest leaf set and right under (chop off leaves close to stem and right under @ an angle)... Dunk this in rooting hormone and archor into damp medium. Give a quick mist on leaves and inside of cont. Then seal with lid. Write date on outside. Put under light. Every 2-3 days mist out the cont., the leaves and the coco/rockwhool until you see run off. Let mostly drip out.. Then place bk inside and seal with lid. Be loyal about your misting schedule. Every two days is preferable. Don't put it too close to light or too hot of a spot or it will suck out the moisture and life from your leaves and they'll dry, die and fall off. In anywhere from 2-3 months it SHOULD take root. Use good clean water like RO or distilled. Don't slack on mistings... That's big. Yet don't go overboard. Every 2-3 days is fine. It takes patience but will work. Best of luck to you buddy
As for the bottom. Make sure it doesn't dry out and move it to a spot indoor under a floro... No need for humidity dome though... Don't put in a super hardcore lit environment. The distance and spot the clones at is prob just fine. In due time you might see some pup growth. If theres a nice root mass it very well might recover but the leafless bottoms are sometimes harder to recover. Although again, w a nice root mass the odds are more in your favor.
Patience, faith and a nuturing hand are your best tools in combating this issue. Best of luck to you. Hope some of this was helpful. Its def big enough to try saving
×××Edited... But disregard the cutting part. Your top isn't that large... Check my next post. Sorry I had to post all this in a hurry

From taking a close look @ your pic...
Scratch cutting off bottom leaf set... Just make a fresh cut at say about an inch off.. If you can get sorta close to the leaves, go for it. I see a little knuckle under the leaves... If you could make the main cut about a quarter to half inch under that and also cut the knuckle ends up a little, hit em w rooting hormone amdnthen anchor into medium, go for it. I've had the leaves right up on e medium surface and it never seems to bother anything.

Mine is starting to look a little pale. The veins are still green and some of them are actually red. Can these things handle the ferts or should I take it easy on it? I'll snap a pic when I get home

I know the red veins are just a characteristic of the plant but from the shot of the top of the leaves it seems hungry to me.
