I agree!
That tree has really taken off DGB!:rocket:

Two questions?

Why do I see alot of people cut the leaves in half during rooting?

What are y'all using for fertilizer?

I have jobes bone meal, jobes blood meal, jobes knock out rose, fish emulsions, jobes indoor plant stakes, and jobes tomato and vegatable.

My soil is coir, miracle grow potting mix, perlite, and a dash of worm casting.

I have terrible luck with fertilizer killing or stunting my plants and havent fed my trees since I got them.

idk, that's just how that cutting came to me, if im remembering right its something to do with reducing the amount of surface area the plant can loose moister while rooting...or something.

it actually dropped all its leaves and i thought it was dead for about 2 months, came back to life and grew about a foot in a few weeks once i put a water pan under it and mulched it, so it was a dryness issue.

i just sprinkle a tea spoon of granular fertilizer with essential minerals, occ ill do plain miracle grow. so nothing really fancy, its actually potted in old reused soil and a fuck ton of coco coir to holed and wick water more.  i also live in an environment that i assume must be very close to its native habitat so i feel that also provides a large buffer to success.

The leaves that are cut off are as DGB says a way to keep it hydrated.
A cutting has hard time taking up moisture until it has grown a root system and a large leaf area make it evaporate more moisture.
So many cut the big leaves in half on cuttings so it can keep moisture better.
I don´t know if it makes a huge difference but its recommended by many.

Nice Mitragyna tree you grown DGB.
That progress in not even a year is amazing.
You must have green fingers and a favorable climate.

Snakeye, if your fertilizer is killing your plants you probably have to strong mix.
Take into consideration if you have used soil with fertilizers in it, it all adds up.

Try half the strength recommended on the bottle, or even 1/4 strength.
If the plants seem to like it you can increase the strength in steps.
Many times half strength works just fine.

I've not had success with any germination. Maybe a hundred seeds planted in peat and another hundred in a damp napkin in a bag. I have given them a month. Nothing but a discolored napkin, and nothing from the peat. Disheartening.

:facepalm3:
Thanks so much for this!
Wow I cant believe I forgot about the fertilizer in the bagged soil...

I thought I may have just been using the wrong ratio of ferts for the specific plant.

I'll try using half strength and only if I havent refreshed the soil that winter or repotted that spring.

Now what am I going to do with all this fertilizer...

thank you for the compliments you guys. I keep them in full sun and I use Happy Frog soil. It's amazing how much better the plants perform over miracle grow soil. Keep them watered plenty too. I have a Red Malay that is about 9" tall. It gets a few hours of morning sun and that's it. Once it graduates to a larger pot I will put it with the others. Just don't want it drying out too quickly.

DGB, thanks for posting your Rifat. It looks awesome now, it made quite the turn around.  I always enjoy looking at other people's plants

Jakeoncid, wow that's in the ground? I guess I could plant one in the ground too, but it wouldn't survive the winter. Looks nice.

Here's my bumblebee about 5 feet tall and 2" thick at the base. It was stuck in a small 2 gallon pot but I've recently repotted into a 5 gallon and it's really putting on growth. Next year I plan on using a large storage tub as a pot.

Heres my bois... i fucked up and let them get a little too dry for a bit too long. They can handle being dry for an extra day or two, but soon enough it burns them up. They looked so limp and unhappy last night. But thankfully they have got their turgor and groove back

They grow very good at such high humidity.
And they grow super fast in a DWC bubbler bucket.
But if you are going to transfer them to normal air they will require very gradual transfer.
That´s why i try to get them used to lower humidity pretty fast.
I always get bug problems if having such a humid tent inside for long time.
