I've been experimenting with grafting kratom varieties lately. I tried it years ago with "somewhat of a success rate". Unfortunately got anxious and unwrapped them too soon... When I heard people where grafting with super glue I decided to try it again!
I've killed SO many of those finicky Thai cuttings it's ridiculous... They just do not like the sun as much as the Rifats, BB's and PVI's. I had a good amount of Bumble Bee's so I used those as a base and Thai as the top.

I made another that has a larger Rifat stock. I put a Thai on top, 2 BB's and 2 PVI's on the side's. Not pretty right now but here's a pic of the Frankengyna!

It's been about 3 weeks since the initial cuttings and we have new growth. Thoughts, ideas, questions, arguments?

Not being critical but just wondering what advantages grafting Kratom cuttings together would provide? Will you be able to have several different varieties growing on one plant? Or will they grow faster?

The main reason is... I keep killing my Thai plants. They are MUCH more sensitive to our sun. Experimenting to see if they will survive on one of the more resilient varieties, that have already adapted to this climate. Also having fun and want to see what comes of it. Every variety has proven to be different. They do it with all sorts of plants, why not kratom?

Thought you all would get a kick out of this. I have so many seed pods on my tree I've started bagging them up on the tree. Got alot of work ahead of me.

That tree looks awesome! I was hoping one of mine would flower this year. Instead, just shot up a few more feet. Still time though! I still have faith.
What state, if you don't mind?

How old is your tree? And has it matured? That could be why it's not producing pods.

Do any of you guys get issues with your kratom trees leaning hardcore? Both my Pink Vein Indo and Rifat are leaning so hard their foliage nearly touches the ground. They've been like this for some time and in hind sight I should have staked them down a while back.
I'll post some pics tomorrow when I get a chance.

Did you bother making cuttings out of your trimmings?
Virtually all the foliage is on the ends of the limbs. If y'all know arborist terms, they're lion tailing pretty bad.
My concern is if I trim them up, they won't have any foliage at all. Will they push out new foliage without having too much stress?
I also just moved them outdoors because I think it will be easier for me to handle the spider mite infestation outside. They're in shade now with very little scattered light in the evening. Giving them daily watering as opposed to every 2 days since theyre in much higher temps now. Will start acclimating to morning light in about a week.

Very nice, Jay
I was talking with a kratom farmer/seller from Indonesia today and he told me something very interesting about horned leaves. He said that horns depend on the soil's mineral content, so that if the soil is high in minerals the plant will grow horns. I think that's not the only factor but it might definitely play a role, will be interesting to experiment.

I made sure he meant minerals by "mine" later in the convo
Also, I thought most if not all of the indo kratom was wild harvested, I was wrong. Guess that should put an end to the "seedgrown isn't potent" rumours

Interesting. Why type of minerals do you think he was talking about? I wonder if he's referring to high concentration of volcanic ash/old lava flows?

I don't think he knows precisely which minerals, here's his answer when I asked what he meant by mine:

If you have an excess of gold bars, you know what to do with em Jokes aside, bauxite is high in aluminum & iron

Acaterpillar i read you message and wanted to answer some of your questions. You shouldn’t have a issue about them leaning so hard. You can trim them like a bonsai tree. If you have any pictures I’d give you some tips. Also what do you mean your pink vein indo?
It depends on how much there is if i do cuttings or not. IF they can withstand a trimming i would go ahead and do it. My largest trees will allow me to take as much as i want to as they are huge. But I wouldn’t go crazy with it. They will most eficnatly push out new foliage especially right now as we are in season but it could stress them out a lot.
