I would get those roots to start forming like you have pictured but they never did much until I stuck them in some coco coir. Sounds like some people have better luck rooting in straight water tho.
For the mites, I used everclear with water. It was probably 3-4 caps full of everclear with about 8oz water. Just enough that if you took a wiff of the bottle you would catch a faint alcohol smell. I probably could have used more alcohol but I wanted to be careful and heard that even straight water can help, so I figured better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the mite tip.

Some of my red malay and green malay:

They require plenty of water It seems like they grow the leaves first and then inflate them with water? IDK what's going on Supplementing with minerals hasn't fixed my moderate chlorosis on the green malay yet as it seems to have fixed it for my novo's.
I wonder what determines the kratom vein color and whether they need to grow bigger and older before showing traits. I also read things that seem to suggest that these varieties could be a bit coincidentally named? So that the vein color depends more on conditions..
What can you use well to grow kratom in order to prepare it for hydroponics without disturbing it too much instead of rockwool? Transplanting from soil to hydro doesn't seem so great to me.
About alcohol:
Quote:
Ethanol tends to stunt the growth of plants. When ethanol is applied to flowers, scientists note that, when watered with a 5 percent solution of ethanol, plant growth slows. When a 10 percent alcohol solution is applied, the plant becomes stressed and, with a 25 percent alcohol solution, the plant dies.
https://sciencing.com/effect-alcohol-plants-8006187.html
Dabbing aphids or scale etc with alcohol is probably okay but I am just saying I would try to limit spraying with alcohol or mixtures containing alcohol.

Solipsis, your Mitragynas look good. The Red Malays seems very healthy but the green´s looks like they have a bug problem. I get exactly that wrinkled leaf when i have spidermites. A spray with some commerial pyrethum variant or a home mix usually makes the new leafs look normal when they come.
I use standard potting soil for houseplants and it has some ferts included. If plants are little bigger i add a little cow manure to the soilmix. This soil and a chineese LED growlight have given no clorosis or pale leafs and they are growing very fast. The leafs are dark green and seem very healthy in color. Outside in the sun they do even better. Here they get thicker stems and closer between nodes. I have something eating the leafs though, i get holes and i cant find the one eating the leafs. It must be a very shy bug or it´s a small one that i have missed when looking.
They get a more red color of the weins when they get older and leafs are bigger. I do think growing comditions will affect this also. Outside i get a more red tone of the weins but i have good red color under LED growlights too when leafs are getting biger.
When i put my seedlings into a bubbler bucket i wash of most of soil and put the end with roots in a netpot filled with leca balls. I guess any similar thing will do. Only problem i have is that the plant doesn´t stand solid and secure in the leca balls and i have to add something so it doesnt fall in any direction.
I dont think alcohole/water mix is good for the plants but as a short period remedy against mites i would take any downsides as the spidermites is more bad for the plants. If they start look very bad i would of cause stop and try use another remedy.

Mind sharing what Chinese LED you're using? I'm thinking about making the jump from Fluorescents to LEDs.

I use the cheap EBAY chineese LED growlights. One is stated 1200W but it actually draws something like 350W. The other older one was stated 600W but is something like 300W. Allways look what they actually draw (watts) and not the watts they state in the header of the add. My newer one has blue, red, white plus some UV and IR diodes, i dont think it matters so much what diodes are used. I have noticed Mitragynas grow good under them even though i have them pretty high up. The big CFLs seem work fine for small cacti, grafts, seedlings and leafy plants of all sorts as Mitragynas. I have a 200W CFL and a 450W dual spectrum CFL. Both LEDs and big CFLs seem to work good but i would guess latest high output T5 fixtures are very good as well.

Yeah I started my Mitras under some high output T5s at 1600k and they loved it. Now I have them under some high output CFLs in the same spectrum, but they don't seem as vigorous.
Granted, they are in lower humidity now and I probably dont water as much as I should, so I think that may be a bigger factor.

They grow much slower if in lower temps and humidity. I have a chineese LED growlight in my growtent and they do good under it. It is however little warm and humid in there.

What's a good way to acclimate these bad boys once they root a bit more?
Maybe cover the top with cling wrap. Slowly poking more and more holes over time?
I could use the top for my sgfc? Or the whole sgfc and slowly remove tape from the holes?
Flip the lid?
Just ideas.

I have felt that just take them out and put them in the shade. Then again RH here is around high 30s so that helps. Slowly for sure depending on you climate. Good luck with it.

Cool trees wow
I had to sequester a few plants (trich seedlings) on which i spotted a few spider mites, very close to my novo's.. for some reason it seems they haven't spreaded much yet - I need to replace my dedicated insecticidal soap spray bottle, i haven't had to spray anything in quite a while.
Hopefully some novo berries on their way and some ipadu included.. :>
