Hylocereus undatus cultivation

So ive been very curious about cactus lately, especially since a buddy of mine gave me this huge cutting of what is commonly known as the dragonfruit cactus.
I have no experience growing cactus whatsoever but i have read these are not your typical cactus.
Here's what ive read A.) They like the soil wetter than most cacti B.) They like a 50/50 mix of soil and perlite C.) They like a bit more shade than other cacti species D.) It takes up to a couple years to see fruit when started from seedling
E.) And of course, they look and taste amazing not to mention the flowers that bloom at night look cool
anyways, i know there are some awesome cactus farmers on this site, and any nuggets of info would be greatly appreciated!
Some cool pics

I don't have much experience with this type of cactus. I once grew a couple of plants in a garden by basically neglecting them after putting them on the ground, but they never flowered (probably lack of sunlight). I don't believe a "couple of years" is enough to see them flower from seed, more like 5+. I don't like perlite, but I imagine they would favour a cactus mix rather heavy on the humus side - say, 2 parts soil to one part grit.

Awesome thanks man.
I wonder how long it would take these clippings to fruit, they are probably a year old or a little older.
What do you recommend for grit?

Post a pic of the cuttings, but my guess is some years, depending on the conditions you can provide. Think more of orchids than cacti for this one.
Any grit will do, as long as it's not limestone, eggshell, gypsum, dolomite, etc. These are jungle plants, used to acidic conditions.

What grow zone are you in?
I have a nice plant that spaceman sent me about two years ago,and it will never fruit.
I think grow zone 9b is a minimum with this plant for flowering and fruit production.

I'm growing them from seed I've just got them in Coco coir and coarse sand I guess I'm gonna give them some peat moss Maybe some lava rocks I'm going to be using them as grafting stock though They grow really fast, much faster than trich seedlings Can't find the pics right now but I will

So i went with Lsoares's advice and mixed 2 parts miracle grow cactus soil and 1 part perlite ( all i had for grit at the moment) and put a lil mulch around the clipping to help water retention.
I also have a huge bag of coco coir and access to beach sand if you guys had a ratio with coir for the other clippings.

Awesome stuff there. I bought a dragonfruit the other day and saved some seeds. I'm gonna see if I can get some going. I would love to have these around.

Yeah i love them, my buddy mixes tequila with dragonfruit
The ground is pretty much covered with them in the bushy areas around here which is strange because i never see any fruits on them.

That may be because they're all the same clone that spread by cuttings and is auto-sterile (meaning you will need to cross-polinate the flowers with a plant from a different origin for it to set fruit).

Extremely, I've been growing lophs and trich from seed at the same time so these have not been a huge priority, They've grown much faster than the others and I've worried about them less Cereus is also real easy from seed

Awesome, and i know what you mean about the quality of taste being off at times
This one is very seedy and has the texture of a boiled bannana lol. This one was actually collected from the jungle around here which is pretty suprising.
