Physical transfer properties of humid gasses (RH and SV)
    #23693019 - 09/30/16 05:30 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Had some time between tasks today, was reading a lot of posts regarding mono tub size, hole positioning, martha air mixture and heat of your sub etc..

Figured i'd put this here for any other new comers to hopefully see and dismiss the panic of worrying about little tiny changes like 1 degree celsius, how humid their tubs are and the age old "Co2 is heavier than water"

Best source of transfer properties i found was:

Transfer Properties of Humid Gas

For those who can't make sense of the paper, very rough cliffs are:

I'll start by saying this:
-Humidity has a lot of indicators but mostly it's Saturation Volume and Relative Humidity.

-Higher RH has a lower thermal diffusivity, thus higher specific heat capacity = air holds heat better.

BUT..

Between the ranges of 0 and 40 degrees (C) there is virtually a non existent change in properties. Biggest change was the viscosity of the air..and that was 7%; It moves 7% slower at 50 degrees celsius.

There's a few indicators for humidity but for us its basically a balance of RH and the Saturation Volume.

The reason why it's important/not important;  is the higher RH we have, means less humid air density i.e less humid air in the same mono tub, but too much means you risk watering your sub when it condenses.

Now..the real point of researching this?

"CO2 is heavier than air and falls to the bottom". no..

Humid air has LESS density than dry air. This is because water vapour is lighter than the majority of the elements in Air. As the water has now taken up the space the other elements wanted, the volume increases. As the elements are in a 'for this purpose sealed' vessel, the volume cannot increase, and the resulting air gets evacuated like a bowel movement any where it can.

This is more than likely the reason why the top holes are looser as you want the humid air with a lot of water vapour in it to pass freely and not be restricted.

My hypothesis on what would happen with restricted flow at the top, a portion of the unescaped dry air and humid air remain for a period of time, with the saturated vapour slowly condensing, dropping the temp as a result and then as a result of that condensing more. i.e contam city.

Well, my potato gems are finished now, hope this helps someone.
