Cactus Help Please
    #23687940 - 09/28/16 06:48 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

So I got this cutting from a fellow shroomerite, I forgot who.

Anyways, I have had it since Febuary. I applied a bit of rooting hormone before I planted the cutting, once some little roots formed. I have noticed not much if any growth, but I thought it felt like it was firmly planted as if some roots had formed over the months - That would make sense but I must have done something wrong. When I dug it out, it came up too easy and I now see that there are no roots. There is a yellow discoloration in the whole bottom - I don't know if its bacterial contamination or infection or what. The other end is still open as well.

Sorry if I sound retarded, i dont know too much about cacti. I have had it in the sun, outside all summer. It has been pretty hot.

Basically I want to know if my plant is dead, and if not what I should do from here? Cut the nasty part off and start again?

Pics included, and thanks for any help!

Doesn't look infected yet to me, just soft from too much water without roots.

I would let it dry out and then put back in dry soil in a cool, dry, and shaded area.

Yeah, that would be good. You really just don't want it baking in the direct hot sunlight until its developed roots.

They seem to root faster when in a cooler/dark place.

you dont think its dead? It is kinda soft. Is there any tell-tale signs that it is in fact still alive?

Why is it so dirty in the second pic? Wipe that dirt off or hose it down. It still looks alive. Looks like it is well calloused.

It's green still, so it's not dead. Plant it again and wait longer. Sometimes roots take a while to show up.

Ive never used rooting hormones, so no advice there, except they aren't needed, especially with trichos.
