The more sub, the better water retention

makes sense am i correct in understanding once colonized sub is put in mono the holes are to be cover with micropore tape until pinning starts then uncover & plug with polyfill? thx for all the help!

Spawn and sub are different the spawn is your colonized grain then you spawn that to your sub then if you want to tape your holes use duct or painters tape micropore will induce fruiting

The spawn is mixed with the sub in a lined/unlined monotub. Holes are to be TAPED shut ( not micropore) until colonized (some people fruit when mixed) then polyfil or micropore tape replaces the sealed tape.

also is there a nutritional substrate that would colonize to stretch my current rye/substrate ratio so i can obtain a larger surface area for larger tub? (all sub. is in a pre pasturized in bag for original ratio)

ok that helps, figure its better to ask those who know rather than fuckin something up lol i understand the spawn vs substrate, i have 2 rye bags almost ready to go i just screwed up on my ratio of spawn x sub. so im going to have to use a MUCH smaller tub than expected unless i can think outside the box all you can do is learn sometimes

2 inch tubs rule as one flush wonders. 3 to 4 inches to hold more water on later flush ones. If your unsure able the spawn at all spawn to less sub about 2 inches

mix your rye with substrate (like maybe CVG) at a 2.5" depth. Use a ratio between 1:1 spawn:sub - 1:4 spawn:sub. Then you can case or whatever you want.
Don't just case grains, they dry out too easily and that invites contaminates.
