I've been offered a job: cleaning a literal shitstorm

I clean for a living, one of my clients tells me this long story about a man who lived in one of their apartments and got laid off, so he couldn't pay for necessary medical treatments anymore and became incontinent as a result of this. (we don't have many details)
It became a weird situation where he was living in squalor, not healthy enough to do much physically, and apparently has no family/friends to ask for help. He doesn't handle incontinence well and apparently the whole inside of this apartment is a literal shit/urine storm. I was told it had to be fumigated to make it safe to enter.
So some sort of health services eventually help the guy out and he get evicted or w/e. So now my client is wondering what the fuck to even do with this apartment, covered in shit for months as it is. So I've been offered way more than my usual rate to clean it, but I'm weary of taking the job for obvious reasons.
Anybody have experience with stuff like this? Was hoping somebody might have advice, for me or my client. Know a good way to clean caked on feces?

Maybe get a mask with a filter for pathogens,I would probably do it for 500 as long as I was covered up,maybe 5 gallons of bleach and push handle hard bristle units, they have a segment in the movie 99 homes which is similiar, ppl would purposely plug up their toilets when being foreclosed

Man I don't have a good answer to your question, but if you take it(and believe me I would in nooooo way blame you for not) you're doing a good thing, and services like yours are really really important because this stuff...it happens..more commonly I think than people like to acknowledge.
I'm glad that man got help. That's a terrible way to live, regardless of what stage of life you're at.
..I hear from some people I know that are 'in the know' that vicks vapor rub right under your nose will help with some smells you may not want to encounter full force. And yah, I'd look into hazmat cleanup and proper PPE and bill the client accordingly in addition to whatever rate you've decided.

A friend of mine was renting out a house to a lady with cats. After she moved out, he discovered basically the same thing. He had to spend thousands of dollars to completely rebuild the flooring in several rooms. It was a fucking nightmare.

You got this bro. I've removed 6 inches of sewage soaked mud from under houses before. I once cleaned up pounds of TP and shit that had flooded up under a deck at a bar on a busy weekend. First things first, there isn't much cleaning to be done. anything like carpet for instance has to get rolled up and tossed out. Hard surfaces can be hit with a disinfectant solution from a pressure sprayer(the kind people use for spraying bug poison) so you don't get sick and then squeegied and mopped/wiped/whatever. start by covering all exposed skin and getting some goggles so no poopie gets on your eyeballs. A respirator mask is ideal, but a dustmask with some vicks is better than nothing. Gloves! I like the PVC gloves that go up to your elbows for this kind of crap. you can find something at your local plumbing supply house, or a crappier version at home depot. you can wrap your shoes in plastic wrap. Get a blue tarp and roll it out in front of you as you enter. This is now your home base. When you are done strip off you soiled coveralls etc and put them straight into a garbage bag and toss them. Rub yourself down with some rubbing alcohol and get dressed into some clean clothes. congratulations, you are done.

You see those splashproof overalls they wear in breaking bad?
Yeah, do that. As for scrubbing shit, just keep scrubbing and using whatever bleach and chemicals you think suits well.

Is the place empty? Is there furniture or other appliances you have to clean? Like others before me said carpet has to go if not already. The guy who owned my house before me let his animals shit and piss everywhere. The bank had the place cleaned before we bought it but I still had stong urine smell to it. After all the carpets where up i bleached the floors and used varies cleaning solutions multiple times, and it still didn't completely remove the smell. I was planning on removing the floorboards and putting new plywood down and recarpeting. Before that though I found a cleaning product for pets that was supposed to sink into the wood and remove the smell. I covered my floors with that crap multiple times and let it soak for hours. Eventually I got the smell to go away.
But man in your situation thats a tough one. You might sanitize everything and still have a terrible smell. I would let the guy know before you start you can't guarantee to get rid of the smell and sometimes a new floor is needed to be put down. That's just the way it is. If he had urine soaking into carpets it's eventually going to get down and soak into the wood. And it may be impossible to get out.
I'd get a contract with this guy staying exactly what your going to do but wont guarantee the smell will be gone that way he has to pay you for your work even if the smell still exists. I have to make non guarantees in alot of my contracts in the work I do. Some people think if it doesn't come out exactly how they want it's because you've done a bad job and that's not always the case. Bigger and more expensive measures may need to be taken.
Anyway good luck I hope everything works out for you.

I'd do it if they paid well enough. Just wear water tight overalls, a respirator, eye protection, and just go to town on the place.

I had to clean up underneath a few trailers homeless people were living in once. Worst job I ever had by far, wouldn't do it again if you paid me $100 an hour. It was so gross, they wiped their ass with clothing, shit every where, piss bottles everywhere, used toilet paper everywhere. If you do it, make sure you are asking a lot because it's going to be horrible. It's almost impossible to not breath out of your nose for 8 hours straight so buy nose clips.

Ask them to give you a wet/dry vaccum for the job. Just hose everything g down and vaccum up all the moisture. This is the best tool for horrible dirty jobs as such.

depending on where you live, this guy is probably supposed to have licensed hazardous materials clean up company do this, so don't go easy on the price. if a building inspector happened to walk by the open door, he could make that guy gut the unit down to the studs. Charge plenty, and let the guy know that you know he's saving a grip of money.
