Gentlemen and Ladies, just a quick "Hello" from a newbie to the site. The knowledge to be obtained here is invaluable. Thanks to those that give of this information, freely.I take the fungi very seriously and appreciate and welcome all positive input and info.Been lurking and reading and reading.Gonna try my hand at cultivation. Two things I've yet to stumble on.I like the idea of allowing the substrate to sit 2-4 days after sterilization to determine health of substrate.Left untouched except for removing from p/c.Thoughts?Second,I know it is best to wait approx 7 days after outer jar colonization to insure inner colonization, but upon inspection of outer colonization do I still need to keep them in the dark? I understand they still need to be kept warm and out of direct sunlight.Thank you...

Colonizing in the dark is out dated info. Ambient light is actually beneficial for colonizing. And sometimes direct sunlight is good. The 7 day wait your talking about is called consolidation and TWO week consolidation recommended. Or u ntill pins for in the jar. you gotta read a lot more man.
Welcome to the shroomery

Well I don't lke this idea, because that's not what you're supposed to be doing. 2 days after sterilization is 2 days of your colonization window wasted. You don't have unlimited time to inoculate and grow your mycelium.

And ditch any and all YouTube info you've gathered. It's nice to have a continuous info stream in the form the of a video but the info you'll find here is the right info. Many vets and TC's have taken the time post quite nice write ups with pics, which I'm sure you've seen in your search's. Most have links in their sigs, use those as well. Like bodi above

.
-------------------- The biggest trip of my life was realizing all of the events and actions described in posts made by this account were never real and had never actually happened, but were instead the delusional ramblings of a severely mentally ill human being. I just had to move on for my own good. I love you all.
