The truth is the kids will grow up to be what biology gave them the tools to acquire. Sadly we are not all born equal. Some people were born predestined to live a live very much more difficult. Not like many other people who have all the genetic tools and financial resources to prosper.

I've seen a lot of really stupid things on this board over the years, but this is up there. So much fail in that quote.

Thanks for my proving my point. You've just shown what you're worth in this thread, and it's not much.

Your mom, maybe. This is incredibly false as a sweeping generalization.
OP: as a general rule, when thinking about approaching people you don't know about their parenting in public, don't do it. If there's no abuse, physical or emotional, but it's just a parent reprimanding their child, don't get involved. You don't know the parent, you don't know the child, and you don't know the circumstances, best to just MYOB. I know you might want to, it might bother you not to, but it's absolutely not your place to get involved.
This was emotional abuse, there's more to the story I can't put into words right now. This little girl broke down crying in the wide open library floor and it was obvious her mom was a viscious irrational cunt. This wasn't strict discipline, it was irrational and.abusive.

A couple nights ago I saw a guy holding a boombox blasting music while on a peaceful evening stroll with his baby mama and his baby in a stroller.

Kids won't grow up to be what biology gave them... I agree with some of your post though. Some are genetically advantaged.

He seemed like he was rebelling a bit because he kept trying to stand up and dad was yelling at him to sit down, so who knows maybe he'll become a microbiologist instead just to appease his inner rebel.

Some is genetics and some is environment. There is nothing else. Many kids are born with poor genetics and poor parents. Rich republicans aren't gonna solve that.

My brothers tormented me as a kid. Very often if they ever got in trouble it was "stop making your sister scream." cuz I was the inconvenient one. And for whatever reason I was obsessed with being 'good' so I never acted out, was always quiet, to the point that I had very few friends growing up and I let people hurt me without a word, lest I be inconvenient. There was one time when I was 10 years old and feeling horribly overwhelmed and I was trying to get my parents to let me stay home from school and started crying and, very clearly remember saying "I just want to die" so they screamed at me and told ME to call them instead and shoved the phone in my face. I think I went to school. So I was a very good little girl. Well behaved and inconspicuous, never made any trouble and did what I thought all adults everywhere wanted me to do. All until my mid teenage years when I inexplicably snapped like a rubber band.
Love my parents but they should not have had kids. I dunno if they should have married either.

OP: there are no miserable parents, just miserable people.
all parents fuck up all their children (at least a tiny bit).
it's the fact of life that nothing is perfect, and it's not the way you were raised to be.

even more so, yes. that's why, even the most perfect parent, will not know how to live up to their children's expectations, if they are set too high. no parent is perfect, inherently, because they are all too human; children too. chastisement is silly, but when it comes to raising kids, it's a matter of control and discipline.

I imagine its more difficult than ever to raise kids. So many conflicting morals and standards. Both parents working. Children 'learning' all kinds of things they shouldn't from the internet or their friends on the internet. I don't think I'd be a horrible mom, I just think now, with the state of the world as it is, it's a bad time to try and properly raise a child to have a good life.
