Weird Hydnellum specimen
    #23690410 - 09/29/16 12:30 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

I have found a bunch of tooth mushrooms, but I've never seen this kind. It looks close to the Bleeding tooth (Hydnellum peckii), but it wasn't excreting spores and has a very vibrant violet to dark purple foot or "root" for lack of a better term.

I have found plenty of the Bleeding tooth fungus around the same area, but never noticed the purple foot before. Couldn't find anything online so I figured I'd drop a pic here and see what you fine folk think. Thanks!

Hydnellum suaveolens, probably. How does it smell?

Thanks, that seems to be the culprit! It smells extremely sweet, not really pepperminty like the descriptions i'm reading, but really sweet. I think you nailed the identification though!
