Would this work?
    #2368907 - 02/22/04 07:50 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Say if someone had a 1/2 pint jar of fully [and nicely] colonized popcorn [cubensis], and this person couldn't find the supplies needed to case it... is there any way to get something off of the mycelium in itself, say if this person was to make tea out of it, or something?
Sorry if this is stupid question; I'm not all too educated on the potency of mycelium.

What are the alternative casing methods ?

Lets say you are in South America somewhere where you can't find cheap vermiculite. (I've heard that agro shops sell the small sacks for around 20 dollars.)

You should get some straw and follow the one of the many staw teks found on the site. As far as the top casing layer, I would try plain peat moss. All the teks I've read use verm, so its up to you to experiment.

The problem is i live in a country where this vermiculite has probably some other name , that i just can't figure out ... I was thinking to put saw dust under the mycelium  , and for the top casing layer i would use natural compost mixed with normal soil ... Do you think this would work ??

saw dust wont act like verm in like a pf tek
but it might work as a casing layer
I would do two casings one with the sawdust and one without a casing layer and which ever works best and stick with it

Slightly late reply here, but...

I had the same problem (I live in Japan and can't read the labels on anything... I can speak, but I'm effectively illiterate)

After seeing any number of teks requiring verm, I did an image search on my browser and it was really easy to recognise it in the gardening section of the supermarket (sorta sparkly - you can get some good pics on the web... it's also very light)

Hope that helps you some.

you could always just tape up the sides of the jar with electric tape and then place into your terranium. I believe their was a post about this in the growlog forumn awhile back.

I have 4 WBS jars colonizing right now ... Ill case 3 of them and with the last one ill try the invitro method ... That's if everything goes fine ... I'm a bit woried about my PC , i think it doesn't provide enough pressure , more like 10 pounds ... Why is the pressure so important , does it realy need to be at 15 puonds ?

This is off topic , so send me a private message if u know .... Thanx
