IMO, they should be dropped out of their mansions and straight into the kind of house and income that your average western cultured human has.

I'm not with the impoverished bit, there's PLENTY of resource on this planet.

I would rather the whole concept of currency be erased and we all take care of each other....but since that will never happen I pick the second option :ruggedwink:

Of course it'll never happen. It's about as likely as anyone who responded with option 2 actually getting super rich though..

It would take a nationwide movement to kick it off for sure.

Filthy rich. What's the point in making rich people poor?

Rich people are people too, and they can do good things and contribute to good causes just like anyone else. There are rich people who contribute to amazing causes such as the legalization of marijuana and research into psychedelics. You don't stop being a good person just because you get rich.

Well with materialist greed you get to have all the cool stuff that you've always wanted, and you get to do whatever you want and go wherever you want whenever you want to. That seems pretty awesome to me.

although it's arguable that not being a good person is often a prerequisite to getting filthy rich

But I can't make all rich people poor could I?  I'm pretty sure I could become filthy rich if I really set my mind to it, but I would have a hard time making all rich people poor.  That is a god-like ability that simple minded material folk cannot fully appreciate.

The older I get the less I actually want. Accumulating things is less important to me than it ever has been. In fact I want to own less and less each day. It becomes a burden.

This. Materialism like everything is transient. I prefer to make as many good memories with the people I love as I can. That is my happiness.

The older I get the more I want to be able to afford those real top quality things in life. I'm tired of mediocrity in my purchases. If I buy acid, I want the best god damn sheet that money can buy. If I want a house, I don't want to settle for a shitty one bedroom in the worst part of town, I want a nice god damn house with a nice piece of land that my family would be proud of.

That takes money. I don't just want the mediocre things in life. I have great respect for the nicer things.

Money also allows you to found companies, and donate to charities, and fund research into psychedelics. For all of its known downsides, money is a truly wonderful thing to have. You can do great things with money.

This is absolutely true. You would single handedly be destroying the world economy overnight which is a godlike power that even most if not all nations don't have. It would be a world changing event whereas getting filthy rich is relatively ordinary in comparison.

Why would you want to take away money from someone who worked hard to get it?

Most very rich people came from very rich families, and their hard work would have been for shit had they not come from a rich background. Lots of people work hard, and lots of people aint rich - far from it - what makes them less deserving?

Then you've got the mega rich; who are likely not working hard at all - just playing a game of monopoly with all their riches. Hard work?

Wealth inequality is one of the, if not the biggest issue our species faces, and a good 75% of you up there would join in and keep the issue going, being a part of the problem rather than a part of the solution. It's a startling revelation of just how well the cultural brainwashing is working.

And to those that state they would be altruistic with their riches; you really think that you're gonna do shit, as a single person, to help fix the fucked up world we live in? Where profits override what is good for humans, good for animals, good for our planet??

Why do you think it's like that in the first place? Cause rich people always want more for themselves and less for everyone else.

Wake up and look around you, please.

Now you're making stuff up to hide your jealousy. Most rich people are self-made. Yeah, lots of people work hard, but what do they spend their money on? Are they investing every bit of it or are they buying a 6pack after work everyday?

It has nothing to do with how deserving somebody is. You have to have the drive to make money and the willpower/brains to save and invest. I've worked for and with 1000's of millionaires and the one thing I noticed about most of them is that they are work oriented and they don't spend money on frivolous shit like my poor friends do.

Admit you're jealous because you can't save and invest properly. You are kind of being hypocritical too. Didn't you just sell your house and move to another continent? Don't you have motorcycles and other toys? You are much wealthier than a huge group of people, but you aren't selling your stuff to feed hungry kids are you? No, but you think the richer people should. I'm willing to bet that most of these rich people contribute more to society than you do.

Learn about how the economy works, please.

Perhaps my data is a little out of date, but it's by no means made up:

Quote:

The paper, "Family, Education, and Sources of Wealth Among the Richest Americans, 1982—2012," by Chicago Booth Professor Steve Kaplan and Joshua Rauh of Stanford, found that fewer of those who made it on to the Forbes 400 list in recent years grew up wealthy than in previous decades.

Some 32 percent of the Forbes 400 in 2011 belonged to very rich families, down from 60 percent in 1982. On the other hand, the share of those in the Forbes 400 who didn't grow up wealthy but had some money in the family—the equivalent of the upper middle class—rose by the about same amount. The proportion of those in the list who grew up poor or had little wealth remained constant at roughly 20 percent throughout the same period.

Source

And no, I'm not at all jealous. As per the words from one of my favourite films 'the things you own end up owning you' - I know this to be true from direct experience. Like Pasty said, my process is in freeing myself from possessions. I didn't sell a house, I paid up the solicitors and very nearly bought one, and would have made $100,000+ on it in the last year if I had. So what.

I don't think the richer people should do anything, fuck, I wouldn't if I were in their shoes. I donate money to the causes I believe in. I never said I was poor. I'm not even gonna enter into the discussion of whether these rich folk 'contribute more to society than you (I) do', cause I think it's horseshit, but this was a hypothetical question, and I stand by my response. Yes, I earned over $100,000 last year, and I worked my fucking ass off for 18+ years to get there. But that has nothing to do with feeding hungry kids. I have no idea where you pulled that from, cause it aint been mentioned once.

Yes, that article proves my point that most aren't rich from an inheritance. Only 32%. Many people start rich or get rich and then lose it. Some people work hard and save and others spend everything they get.

It sounded to me like you were saying that the rich people should give up their money and everyone should have the same amount of money, which I think is ridiculous. That is why I was saying that you wouldn't share your wealth with everyone and aren't any better than someone than someone who is rich. I see that we are on the same page now.

Yeah, we are man; I would happily sacrifice anything I own to see all humans see each other as equal, for once, including my own life.

I know it aint ever gonna happen, but no one is gonna stop me dreaming.
