I just made pasty plates yesterday but couldnt find mini rounds here either. So I used some 1/4th pint jars I had. it was fairly easy, God damn holy fuck a lot of foil tho.

We can just drop spores from a print on agar? I have no reason too, but I thought the syringe had to come first.
Edit: Nevermind thats retarded because we use swabs on agar

B
so if the petri dish smells sweet and sour, toss it out. if it smells like mushrooms, there is good sclerotia producer growth to transfer on the plate.... thanks for the hot tip...

hmmm doesn't look like there are any stones on the plate? or any color other than off-white? doesnt match the description of a good transfer candidate based on the reading i've been doing on the subject... did that plate end up producing good stones and/or fruits?

Not every kickass culture will produce invitro stones or fruits right away, but if you let the plate fully colonize and sit around for a month or two you'll get one or the other and maybe both.

I have some plates with nice long pins on them. But I plan on cloning and didn't want to waste a plate by opening it for op

Here are some, which just happen to be stone producers, cloned from commercial ssclerotia most probably ATL#7

It does help with the semi transparent dishes, which most of that batch of agar was used for.

That's exactly what my current culture is from. The pins went like noodles around the whole plate. Cloned a chunk of stem and it must have been contaminated because the new plate got moldy as fuck, but I did manage to salvage it and now I have some of that culture on grain.

thanks, i will try that! i've been trying to follow RR's tek/method (forgot where he posted it but i read him say it a few times). he says that after 2-3 transfers, you should already see stones formed long before the transferred culture is even close to fully colonizing its new plate, and then use one of those stone to inoculate the next thing (grains, lc, more agar plates, ect). haven't had any success trying it that way so i'll try yours...i do worry about using a month or two old plate tho??? seems like that would be a far from ideal plate to noc something up with due to senescence and what not, no?

I use food coloring whenever there are more than 3 or 4 species I am working with at the moment for quick identification. Makes it a lot easier than sharpie marks all over the dish.
