Grain jar lids

I have searched a little bit, but I am finding mixed information. What I have are plastic wide mouth lids, red high temp RTV silicone, and 1" micropore tape, how do I make lids with that? Just like, a 1/4" hole covered with micropore for GE and a 1/8" hole covered with silicone for a SHIP? All the teks I am finding are just using one hole, usually with polyfill, so I am just making sure this will work good for grain jars that are going to be shaken!

I use grain to grain transfers to expand, so I would not include a ship.
I use plastic lids with a whole synthetic filter disk underneath. I think they're best, I've also used very tight poly fill and tyvek house wrap on from the post office. But if you have a few dollars around just order sfd's for 1$ per filter.

I looked at SFDs, unfortunately I already placed my Amazon order yesterday and I would like to start this all on the same day. I will go get some tyvek at the post office after class, but why can't I use micropore tape? When I saw that was what pasty uses for his easy agar dishes I assumed it worked the same in place of tyvek.

Filthy knees, how big is the hole in your lid? I use sfd's just trying different hole sizes on different jars this run.

In the past I've used a nail reemed out, I used a screwdriver stabbed through,
I just made 50 plastic lids using 3/8ths forsner bit or something like that, to be used with sfds.
I believe 3/8ths is what aloha, a large mushroom company uses for hole size

Are you affixing the filter to the underside of the lids, or just fitting them in snugly? I noticed a widemouth SFD fits pretty snugly in side the lid, and seems like it would keep the seal… is that right?

You don't really have any use for the rtv if you don't have SFDs. If you want to make forever lids you really need the SFDs. For now, all you need to do is drill a hole and cover it with 2 layers of micropore tape which will last you a few cycles, or stuff the hole with some poly which I like to switch out after each run.

I use 1/4" hole for the silicone and a 1/2" to stuff with poly fill for SHIP lids. They have always done me well when I had to do MSG with syringes.
Here is a SHIP vid I made. I was making short videos over a year ago with my cell phone when I was actively growing but abandoned it and just remembered it yesterday when I visited here for the first time in a long time. They are kind of embarrassing now but maybe I will try to make some new ones with better production quality.
