hello to all. Glasgow poster here - a newbie. Very much enamoured to see other locals reaping the rewards.

I've heard elevation >200m is key . . . my question is, how much? I've been through some places about 75-150m with nothing and I am thinking I may need to make it up higher, but I'll still be checking these spots nonetheless.
Thank you.

I prefer to go picking on overcast days when the sun isn't out and blinding, if the sun has been out a lot they stand out like sore thumbs with their golden crispy caps but if it has been raining a lot and they are fresher it is a nightmare trying to find them in bright sun light as they have a darker wetter appearance that makes them tough to spot in amongst all the shadows from the blades of grass, Generally if you look early it will be wet everywhere with morning dew, i prefer after dinner time of overcast days.

Peace

I went upto the grampians last week as my spots at sea level haven't woke up yet and tbh it's not much better up their at all , we are all just waiting patiently for some rain , except for a few who have found the odd spots starting to fruit.

Peace

We have various little hills close to us. Without naming locations...the campsies run along the back of glasgow, join with some little hills that run all the way to fintry.

There are the Kilpatrick hills out the back of Bearsden and clydebank.

I have found some at 50m now in the park in town. But slim pickings.

A high ish (350m) meadow is my regular spot.

Out south there is Tinto hill..never been but it might be good. And you can get the train to Balloch and have a playground of walks through moorland and sheet grazing. Not to mention the walks around beautiful Arrochar..Beinn Ìme being my favourite. .but you don't need to scramble up to 1011m for mushrooms.

I have started to find more before I reach the meadow. Once I get out of the main fields which must be about 200m but are also probabaly exposed to unnatural crap and chemicals which they don't like. The right kind of grass seems to be key for funding more than just a few here and there.

If you search for walks up grahams and corberts on walk highlands you will find terrain with elevation without stomping up any munros or having to go a long way from town that would be a whole day trip.

It's fruiting temp right?

If you look at weather for Glasgow it says 14c but if you look at the hill Forcast on mwis.org.uk it's talking 5c at 900m. They fruit between 5 and 15c right?

just cool temps... 10-15 day. 5-10 night..

further north and higher the elevation, as already said, the fruiting starts earlier, then it slowly makes its way down the country,  the north high elevation finishes earlier than the south as winter creeps in, where as south finishes a lil later as winter creeps in, but yet starts slightly later, works out even in the end.  ...

The best libs I've picked were, according to an elevation finder, at 1.4m above sea level. The libs were fat and very potent and dried with intense blue spots on the nipple. In clusters of about 20 packed close together and found around 200 in very small area. Lower elevations fruit later but I wouldn't be fooled by any definite elevation.

So 2 weeks ago I moved from my humble home in the fields of Norfolk, to the concrete block that is Manchester. I've been craving a hunt since the leaves started turning, and finally got around to it today.

First time in the Peak district and I've got to say it's beautiful. Scouted the area on google maps last night and was very very surprised to find some on first trip (It took me 3 years to find my spots back home). The field was full of lovely back sheep and at an elevation of 384m and latitude of 53. Only found about 30, but luck be my lady tonight - I was expecting a head scratching, empty handed return.
It's so good to be back in the fields and cant wait for next week where I've got a few more spots to check out and hopefully to stumble upon the motherload.
Happy hunting!!!!!!

No pics in field unfortunately

Yeah, in 2014 i went up to Orkney for a week in October and picked 1000's on a golf course right next to a beach.  Can't have been more than 1-2m above sea level.

First time hunting, went up to a field full of sheep near my reservoir around 175-200m above sea level. Avoided anything that didnt look at all like libs, only found about 7, but its been a few degrees over 15 and I wasnt looking for very long, gonna go back up next week if people seem to think these are libs.

Im a little dubious of the ones on the right because I  cant remember how they looked when I picked them haha, got a bit crushed in my bag

This is a pretty bad picture of what a couple look like underneath

I'll take more, honestly though apart from the bare basics I'm not 100% sure what im looking for so any help will be much appreciated!

hey guys first time out this season foresting and checking out a different location from usual haven't found anything from my usual goldmine maybe still bit early, from the south west, have a question with this current spot I've been looking at to ask. As to me it seems like a perfect location for good find, with it being moory grassland, sheep and cattle graze and hilly getting all the elements. the question i got to ask and don't have much knowledge of is that its rock bed is limestone and would like to know if this effects/ disrupts fungi growth in anyways? to me it seems perfect for libs to grow, have seen a lot of shaggy in caps growing in the dung but no signs of the good stuff yet, recon i still got a lil mortise to wait?

some pics off the said area, in my eyes it should be a great spot to find and not my usual, just curious about the limestone affecting, hope to hear some response!

The weather is getting better by the day! Hopefully find plenty of those little angels soon enough. Out into the hills of Perthshire tomorrow for some tracking and hunting. Fingers crossed this one will not be another empty handed return.
