Green mold after applying peat/verm casing
    #23683294 - 09/27/16 01:54 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys. Hope everyone reading this is doing great. I myself am in a bit of a lousy situation. For the past 2 months I've been working on pan cyans. I started with BRF cakes which took forever, then spawned to bulk horse manure. About a week later everything was colonized and perfect.

Then I bought some peat moss, mixed it 50/50 with vermiculite and sprayed to field capacity. Spread a thin layer, about half an inch, and let the tub sit in a warm place for 3 days. The result?

Green mold :frown:

It would hurt a lot throwing these away after all the work and time I've put in them. Is there any way I can resuscitate these? Any way to kill the mold? As for as I know only the casing is contaminated...

Can I mist with vinegar, or peroxide? There must be a remedy...

Did you pasteurize the substrate?

Vinegar or peroxide won't do anything, and I'd say you don't have much to do since it dropped its spores.

I'd reccomend burying it outdoors so it would actually stand a chance.

Ok took them out of the tubs and put them outdoors underneath some bushes. Left the cakes peat moss side up. Do I have to bury them? And if so how deep?

Edit: and no I didn't pateurize and I recognize that is where I erred :/

Well I'm not an expert on this but I just dump my stuff and cover with a thin layer of soil/verm mix.

You forgot the lime. Peat moss needs lime. Grocery store 2.80$

I case a lot without lime, and I had many successful grows without pasteurizing. This is a spawn issue. Could have just been bacterial and trich got a good foothold, or it's been there from the beginning. Either way a healthy sub doesn't mold like this.
