I came across a thread earlier which was about implementing soil survey maps to help find shrooms but it was a map just for the UK so I did some digging and found this........

http://sis.agr.gc.ca/cansis/publications/surveys/index.html

A pretty useful tool for pre-planning shroom hunts IMO.

WOW those maps are a perfect tool! yes we got lots of rain too not supposed to be really cold tonight but around 6c i think which might produce some hopefully

So i figured i would edit this post with my finds this morning.

Only found one patch and they were all within 1 sqm lots of other cool mushrooms too in the same area.

AWESOME Resource Man! Thanks! I've actually just ordered the last item I need to start doing soil pH Testing! I want to compare all my areas and see if they're close to the same. I'm going to continue skimming through this while I wait for the GF to get off work so I can head off on a Hunt! All that rain yesterday hopefully prompted a good flush!

What exactly do you look for on these maps for good hunting spots? Sorry, I'm a bit dumb

typically if you find mushrooms of a certain variety some where that you and looking for, you can cross reference the soil types to help find other areas that could produce those mushrooms.

My best spot EVER on my map is listed as:
Parent Material: ACIDIC Dark reddish brown gravelly clay loam till
Drainage: Good
Topography: 0-30% slope
Stonieness: slightly to excessive with slightly being the preferred side of the scale.
Not sure how the maps for the other provinces are laid out but that how it's described in mine.
Liberty caps also love feeding on sedge grass roots!!

Thanks for the awesome pictures, makes me want to go hunting for some. I live in Halifax, so I just assumed libs only really grew on fields with dung and did not want to drive to and wonder around on some random guy's field. I don't think I saw any poo in any of the pictures. Are you having success with hunting spots without any animals that roam the fields?

Pretty much anywhere there is grass.....lol
Cemeteries and any newly sodded/seeded areas are good spots to check if you don't have access to any pastures.

Ok great, thanks for the tips! I wonder if the type of soil helps determine good hunting spots to check for libs. Someone linked this on the site for the east coast a day or two ago. http://sis.agr.gc.ca/cansis/publications/surveys/ns/index.html

So, I medicated this morning before I went out for a quick pick and forgot the facking camera but their wasn't much to photograph anyway, as I suspected.
The first pic is the haul from a local pasture that has been inactive for about 5 years, still yields decent amounts but the grass is so long, it's a struggle and time consuming.
The other pics are from my lawn, I found about 15 (didn't harvest any yet) but they are all new since the rain, just judging by the size, I would guesstimate that Saturday/Sunday will be prime picking.

There was a spot that used to produce lots years ago, where the grass grew quite tall over time. Last Year I brought a "Whipper-Snipper" with me a few weeks before season and cleared a "Test-Spot"... and Bam!... a few came up. I didn't get down this year in time but next season I'm gonna call ahead and offer a few buddies a couple cases of beer to go in and clear it for me :ashamed:..... and the answer is "Yes".... I am that Crazy Obsessed!
