I just used this same tek and substituted brf for rice and it worked fine.  Make sure while your bring your pc up to temp to do it slow and steady. This will keep it from going up the side of your plates. Good luck!

No problem! Check out pastyplates easy no pour agar. If you've got the pc, like $10- $15 is all the materials cost for it and the plates seem like better quality.

Pastywhyte's tek is the way to go if your just getting into agar.

The ability to take a fully colonized plate and "tic-tac-toe" (Tiger drop 2.0) and plop it into your master jar feels too good.

I have a BUNCH of actual agar dishes and I still use PP5's exclusively to drop my masters. It's just too easy...

Last link in signature is an amalgamation of the good agar resources that are up to date here

When you have a bunch of Petri dishes made for exactly what we need but choose to use pp5 containers.

I have to say I have never been in that boat. Pp5 are functional but there is no comparing to actual petris.....

Idk why no pour is considered easier and 'better' for noobs, maybe cause it's repeated over and over, the two methods are both very,  very easy...

What's too easy about pp5s? Fitling with the lid that sticks sometimes? Having like ten take up a lot of space? View your growth through plastic that's not fully clear. I fail to see how it is too easy.
And I've done pp5s maybe a hundred times and done thousands of pour pertis..

There are zero commercial operations using pp5 glad rounds as petris

I don't think the comparison is necessarily which is easier, but rather what is accessible, very cheap ( maybe free depending on what you have laying around the house), and depending on your situation it could be more stealthy. Pastyplates are a springboard into agar. I'm making an assumption based off him (the op) looking at the doc tek, but I'm guess is probably a cheap into to see what agar is all about.  I know that's why i started with docs, then to pastyplates.

I love the ability to cut them, turn them over, and drop them by lightly pressing the sides in/bottom up. I can do it in a few seconds and it's extremely easy for me.

I've never really had an issue with the lids.
They always open up really easy for me.

When I started with agar, they did take up WAY too much space...
However, I only use them for that last transfer before agar>grain now - so I never really have 10 at a time in my SAB. I have maybe 5 at the most.

I see your points here - but by the time I am using them, the mycelium is clean 99% of the time. The "too easy" part is the drop into the grain jar. I can create 10/15/20 pieces and drop them all into the jar in one fluid motion. It only takes me a few seconds. I like the idea behind having a malleable vessel in the end-I make far less mistakes with the media and it feels more familiar to me.

It's personal preference for me... I still use petris for new growth/clones/etc... but when it comes to the drop, I love using PP5.

:whathesaid: I love petris and its not a bad thing to be able to pour dishes early on in when using agar

Before I started pouring I tried no-pour and had a series of problems with them.
Not saying they are inherently bad, but I don't like using anything other than disposable petris.
I used to be really paranoid that poured agar would contaminate really bad.
Not sure why I thought that.
Out of the 300+ dishes I've poured, only 1 has contaminated before I used it.
I don't store my dishes in the fridge, I just leave them in my SAB until they're all used up.

I don't do the tiger drop though, I just cut a ton of squares out of a petri and use one square per grain jar.
I don't even G2G

With no-pours, visibility was a huge issue too.
I hate the idea of having a filter on my dishes also, just one more thing that can fail and let nasties in.

Good points - especially when you spoke about the filter being another variable.

I think what works best for you and gives you the best outcome is what you should use.

Maybe in the future I will use nothing but petris - but for now, I can't get rid of my pasty plates yet... hehe
