HELLO AGAIN FOLKS... HELP NEEDED IDENTIFYING PROBLEM.
CANT SAY HOW OLD THIS ONE IS AND HAVE LOOKED THRU QUITE A FEW POSTS AND HAVE NOT FOUND ANOTHER LIKE IT.

The top button looks ok even tho its a little flat.. I'm more worried about the brown hardened crack like growth.... Was thinking maybe chopping it of and grafting on to a trichocereus just to see what it grows out like....
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Flat buttons are best The odd growth is perfectly normal. A new pup is emerging. And several others nearby too. A caespitosa form, many headed, perhaps a bit monstrose.

Thanks for the reply. That's made my day... From all the messages ive received to my recent posts I think I've picked this cactus growing up quite easily... BUZZING LOL I was thinking monstrose, well hoping actually. I would of thought you'd have to have a monstrose to begin with. is it possible tho for a normal peyote to then chuck out monstrose pups??? The really slow growth on these makes more time for my mind to wonder.
I've never grafted tiny buttons.... Do you think that little mutant would take if I were to chop it off and put onto a bridgsii??? If the Chan es of it during are higher then it surviving then I would sooner leave it alone.

There seems to be 2 variants of caespitosa
One being more extra prone to pupping prolifically, pups out of pups out of pups. And the other giving a more even growth of many heads. Of course individual specimens might vary depending on growing practices and climate, genetics. Many of these are propagated with cuttings, rooting very easily. Any traits will probably continue if grafted. Pupping might get more extreme in that case. Removing the small pups as they appear will keep growth directed to the main head bringing it to maturity sooner. Caespitosa can take many more years to get a button to flowering age compared to regular williamsii.

Or maybe one is a caespitose L. williamsii, and the other is L. williamsii v. caespitosa

I'll probaly hit myself in morning. I chopped me bridgsii in half and stuck a small pup of each of my buttons on to it. Is it possible to do multipul grafts onto the same stock. I'll post a pic tomoz.
And do you think it would hurt the top half of my tric if I left it in a dark warm cuboard to help dry and root.
There great looking plants?? Do you own them ???

Please, do not double post, simply edit your previous to add anything extra.
Those plants aren't mine, one is a friends, and the other is a vendor pic.
I'd not leave a cactus in dark and warm to root. Bright shade is good for trichs. You will only have extra acclimation problems bringing them back into light. They are living and require sunlight to bring in energy. Bright shade, in a clay pot keeping the base dark, or stand atop whatever your chosen mix is. Stake them up if necessary.
I do this with trichs. Can easily lift out to see if roots are forming. Once I see they are starting, into soil they go, and then get watered like normal along with the rest.

Cling film over grafts of that size might not be wise. It can be useful for seedlings to pereskiopsis, but there is a risk that something unwanted might take hold in the exposed cut flesh when kept sealed, leading to rot.
But hopefully others can chime in with better advice, I am way out of practice with grafting.
