unsterilized jars

how long is it safe to leave unsterilized brf/verm/water/coffee mix jar? i mixed up my jars, put them in my pc, and realized i'm missing a piece for it!!!

1-2 days max IMO , but once you cook them most nasties should be killed . But if you wait to long contams will start to consume nutes .
Get em cookin ASAP

It is, if you do it right. Steam the jars in a covered pot for 90 minutes, this should so it. Check the water level from time to time and add some so you don?t cook the pot dry.

Thats what i've done with my jars. The first time i boiled them for 2 hours but turns out i didn't have enough BRF so its still growing but slow and its been about 2 months since that and no contams, not much mycelium but its ok. My new set of jars were boiled for about 2 hours healthy meycelium started growing after 3 days and so far no sign of contams.

yea unless your doing WBS or other whole grains you dont NEED a PC. its obviously better but i used to steam mine until i got my PC and rarely had problems

Don't forget to put a towel or something in the bottom of the pot to keep the jars from coming in direct contact with the pot. This will prevent uneven heating and lessen the chances of burned substrate or a cracked jar.
