LC is a bad idea if you're having issues with bacteria, agar is the way to go. I've found that they sell agar agar in shops that sell stuff for making cakes, or you could always order it online.
about testing LC, just knock up some jars and observe .)

First off, stop putting spores to LC. Spores are rarely 100% contam free. Second the best thing to test a LC on is agar. I have seen bacterial LC colonize brf just fine but shows on agar real fast. Of course if you just use the LC on brf it doesn't really matter if it's bacterial but the yield suffers a bit. But take that same bacterial LC to grain and end up with mold once you spawn it.
LC is best started and tested with agar. Good news tho, agar is pretty easy.

Here is 5oz of agar for $15.95
That amount of agar will last you a VERY VERY long time. The rest of materials/ingredients can be bought at your grocery store, i.e. potato flakes, honey etc...
If you have problems with LC(i've had many in the past), its hard to get away from it, and you will end up wasting a lot of time, money, and effort only to be left frustrated and empty handed. Take the extra time to do agar, clean up your sample and then make LC from the agar if you want to expand your supply that way. You will thank yourself for knowing that its a clean culture.

I definitely agree just test on agar. Ordered Agar Agar and BME on amazon for about 10.00 a package and have been making agar for a while. colonizes so fast on agar, lets you easily see the health of your sample.
