Ammending agar with fruiting substrate material

So i've been reading "Growing Gormet and Medicinal Mushrooms" by Paul Stamets and i noticed an interesting concept that i haven't seen anyone apply to cubes an I'm curious if anyone has any experience with it. he claims that adding a little bit of whatever material will be used as the fruiting substrate to the agar medium that will be used for isolations will help improve overall performance. he states "the addition of extracted end-substrates (sawdust straw, ect) favors the normal development of mycelium. the introduction of the end substrate acquaints the mushroom mycelium with its destined fruiting habitat, challenging the mycelium and selectively activating its enzymatic systems" he goes on to say this results in "improved performance, accelerated speed of colonization and fruiting." My question is has anyone tied something similar to this with cubes? I was contemplating using some of the water left over after soaking the grains to mix in with my agar. the thing is I'm not sure at what ratio it would be appropriate. Stamets recommends 1-3 grams of substrate per liter of agar medium but i don't know how that would convert to a liquid measurement.

People use grain water agar all the time. I think you just haven't read far enough through the site yet. The ratio of dilution seems to vary between different grains or even different batches of the same grains.

cool ill look further into it, i just never came across the concept on any threads here or if i did it wasn't what i was paying attention to at the time. I'm just getting started with agar and back into mycology after a couple year hiatus (my supplies haven't even showed up yet) so i've kinda been out of the loop. any links would be greatly appreciated although your tude makes me think you'll prob just tell me to find it myself
