Hey all, first time hunting for me this year and I'd like to know which species can be easily confused for libs. In particular, if any are particularly toxic, or even deadly?!
Many Thanks

I have been asking this too. Here's what in have found so far.

http://www.mycolog.com/CHAP22.htm#toxin table
http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/stropharia-pseudocyanea.php
My friend thought he had been poisoned out picking with me so I brushed up. Seems he had a cold and there was no need for me to worry.
I think when you see libs just stop, have a look at the habitat. Libs bind to grass roots. They have a mutually benificial relationship. Check what the Base of the mushroom is attached to. If it's moss or wood be immediately suspicious.
Also. Young mushrooms are harder to ID. That's how a young peppery rounded slipped into my collection. Be aware of what young specimens of Libs neighbours look like.
I also did some reading on the deadliest mushrooms. Some even when young look nothing like libs so no further reading required for those.
If you look at that poisoning guide I posted it's mentions some you can learn to ID.
The first couple of groups in his guide are the killers. After that it's more ones that will make you feel ill in various ways.
I think the one that tricks me most often is this http://www.mushroomexpert.com/panaeolus_acuminatus.html Then I get close and see the velvety stem from above.

If you count all the important macroscopic characteristics - including color, hygrophanous cap, gelatinous pellicle, dark purplish brown spore print, shape of lamellae, flesh texture, growth habit and habitat - there are no real look alikes.
The potentially toxic species of similar stature that might grow in the vicinity of liberty caps are in the genera Conocybe, Pholiotina and Galerina. These all have rusty to cinnamon brown spore prints, and generally have a considerably more flimsy and fragile texture.
Once you are confident in identifying liberty caps by the above checklist, the potentially toxic ones are easy to dismiss.
And again - if in doubt, throw it out.
