stalling growth in rye bag
    #23677527 - 09/25/16 06:05 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Hey guys was wondering if anybody could share some wisdom.  I have 2 rye bags colonized about a wk apart with a lc, I need to stall growth in first bag(which is around 3/4 colonized) so that second can catch up. My theory is to refrigerate it to stall growth (such as LC or tissue culture) my only question is if mycelium will rejuvenate after being stalled in cold?  Thx in advance!

True enough! sometimes you just have to give it a go in this field:wink:  Went ahead and tossed it in the fridge (now over 75-90% colonized, very healthy spawn) ill pass on my findings after other bag catches up & I go to rejuvinate stored bag.

Too late now but why not adapt and fruit them individually? Healthy spawn should be birthed when it's ready. You can't expect good results from stalling a natural growth cycle.

Wow.
Spawn is typically a use it or lose it thing. But if you ever did have to save it for a bit longer (which isn't advisable), it makes a fucking ton more sense to let it fully colonize, then put in the fridge.

I keep colonized spawn, including bags, in the fridge all the time :mushroom2:

Appreciate all the help guys, at this point id put the bag at atleast 90% colonized before putting in fridge on second look. only thing to do now is wait and hope for good results:confused:  >ideally I wouldnt have tried to stall it but it was more of a ratio issue with pre mesured compost bags, I had a contam so I had to start the 1 of the 2 bags over:thumbdown:  Im hopeful though..  If not its a lesson learned & Im left with 1 bag (situation now;))

bag picked right back up like nothing happened   so i guess the answer is yes you can stall growth if needed without negative results.      the only thing i would watch for is when thawing out, bag will sweat so make sure you put a towel down & keep filter patch from getting wet also make sure your refrigerator is clean (Clorox wipes.
