Yeah, I suppose time is somewhat of an issue....in reality it is for everyone. Some more than others. My mother made it almost 8 years, but they caught it rather early and it wasn't a good 8 years. She subscribed to conventional medicine. So far I have refused. Gives things an interesting perspective when you actually allow yourself to comprehend the brevity of things. Anyway, take a look at this thing and tell me what you think. I think it is stunted..I've seen no growth for days. chamber is full of holes and I suspended it above cardboard wrapped in foil. it is sitting on rocks that I sanitized with 91% alcohol.

Yes..it had just been misted. I took that shortly before I posted it. I misted assuming it would loose moisture while I had it out of the chamber to drill a few last holes. Uh...I just wrapped the cardboard in foil to create a stable base. I don't have shot glasses so I sanitized some aquarium rocks i had laying around to get it up off the foil. I will be adding a cake to the chamber either today or tomorrow, not sure. It just colonized the full surface of the jar yesterday and I would let it go another week as most recommend, but it is pinning in the jar, so I figure I better birth it. Should I dunk and roll with it pinning? These cakes may be a little different. Couldn't find brf , but I found organic rye flour and used that instead...seems to have done ok but took a long time. They were inoculated on aug. 12. Just now fully colonized. Anyway, I also wanted to mention that I mist with ro water. My tap water is high in chloramine so reverse osmosis is the best thing I have readily available..I've had a few jars contaminate..built a spot in a flowerbed with manure, verm, straw, peat, and some gypsum pellets. broke up about 4 jars and layered it in...keeping it moist. Hoping it will try to do something at some point. I water the outside bed with water out of a large fish aquarium when I do water changes...about twice a week. I've dug around in it while adding more substrate and I see myc growth. Not sure when I could expect anything to pop up..maybe not until next year, I don't know.

You don't need to sterilize verm for dunk and roll.

oh, oh oh..nuther big question...I saw a video where this guy shot 2 syringes of sterile water into a brf cake jar..shook it up gently then extracted water. Claimed that it was now a viable myc culture syringe...does that work? I have been unable to get a successful liquid culture started. just wondering if this is a legit tek?

have taken the advice offered here and all of my pins have turned black and blue...so I start researching...you guys mocked me about spraying the walls and top of the chamber to increase humidity..remember? "what good does it do if I bring you a drink and throw it on the wall?" So i discover through searching that some dead guy named fanaticus says that the very first rule is to never directly spray the fungus.
It all starts with the spray from the hand sprayer. The first rule is to never directly spray the fungus. This initial spray is comprised of water droplets that are giant ponds of water in relation to the fine mycelial networks of the fungal threads. In culture, the droplet of water will drown the micro world of the fungal structures and thereby inhibit or contaminate growth. But the airborne molecularized water floats into the fine structures and gives the fungus humidity as needed. Molecularized water is another way of describing water that has evaporated into the air.
Now my grow is seemingly ruined, everything has bruised, the caps all turned black and aborted. Good looking out.

thats from the original pf tek written decades ago.
my advice was to leave it alone and not fuck with it.
how much water did you mist with? was it straight water or did you add rubbing alc?
sometimes misting can cause bruising but thats if you myc was jacked to begin with. at least IME.

Everyone sprays their sub's directly with water if yours went wrong there's something else wrong. If what your saying is true a 24 hour dunk would kill everything before you start. If you posted pics we could probably point to what's going on

Looks OK to me Not a massive flush but for a first flush not too bad. Also the aborts are also plenty potent so pick and eat them too
