Lawmakers Ask DEA to Delay Kratom Ban September 25, 2016 Pat Anson By Pat Anson, Editor
A bipartisan group of nearly 50 congressmen have signed a letter asking the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to delay a decision that would classify kratom as a Schedule I controlled substance, a move that would make the sale and possession of the herb a felony offense.
The letter, which will be sent on Monday to acting DEA administrator Charles Rosenberg, was written and circulated on Capitol Hill by Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wisconsin) and Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Arizona). A second letter is being sent to Shaun Donovan, the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), urging him to use his “statutory authority” to delay the DEA’s regulatory action.
The letters are sign by 28 Democrats and 18 Republicans in the House, including two physicians, Rep. Daniel Banishek (R-Michigan) and Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio).
“While Republicans and Democrats are having a difficult time seeing eye-to-eye on many critical issues, and in the midst of a very busy election cycle, it is unprecedented to see so many join forces together, agreeing that the DEA has overstepped its emergency scheduling authority,” said Susan Ash, founder of the American Kratom Association, a consumer group lobbying against the DEA scheduling.
"We urge the DEA to delay finalizing the decision to define Kratom as a schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act and to engage consumers, researchers, and other stakeholders, in keeping with well-established protocol for such matters,” states the letter to the DEA administrator.
"A departure from such guidelines threatens the transparency of the scheduling process and its responsiveness to the input of both citizens and the scientific community."

They make almost nothing from legal kratom, income taxes and sales taxes. They will bring together virtually unlimited funds to fight the scourge of this 'new dangerous drug'.

We should just make it illegal to make plants illegal...

Legal and regulated are two different things. Making meth legal would just make it more easily available...
I agree all drugs should be legal to an extent but many clearly need at least some regulation.

They need to decriminalize all drugs to an extent, make them legal to possess and grow, but illegal to distribute i.e. Sell and what not. That way no one gets rich, and everyone is able to use whatever drugs they wish recreationally or medicinally, no ones gonna to look for meth cuz they'll be too busy cultivating marijuana, mushrooms, poppy plants, etc. Tis the way it should be.

Yeah I fully agree with that but personally I feel like some things like say Fentanyl and its analogues should be heavily regulated and restricted.
Some things just have such high potential for abuse and very limited legitimate use that I wouldn't want them 100 "legal" really.
They should be available for research and their legitimate uses though.

Ive always said, if it grows from the ground naturally it's fair game and no one has the right to ban or restrict them.

I could understand why they would ban such dangerous drugs like meth or heroin, but Kratom is like something totally different.. I've never tried it, but I've yet to read about someone OD,ding on the shit, or that some dude sold his gf's pussy cuz he needed Kratom real bad..

There is one thing these people forget. While they were in "playschool college let's make believe because I have money" there are people who were working farm jobs, business of all sorts, and getting their hands dirty and broken, out of no choice. Real lessons.
Yet, pushed to the bottom of the pyramid, because they have no fancy paper framed on their wall in order to impress their friends.
That top tier forgets, simple physics. A pyramid with no base, can't stand. A building with no foundation, will fall.
Without that bottom base grunt, that top tier see's their cars go, their house go, their toys go.... and then who now, is the nigger?
I put my money on the one who was breaking his/her back straight out the crib. Everytime.
All it takes is some coordination, and strategic moves.. and the whole hierarchy crumbles.
It's about time the solid workers of this United States adjusted their nutts and put their steel toe boots on a cream poofs neck and swing this pendulum back to the side it began with.
The devil wants to destroy this country, and suggest its shit to the world. How are you working class liking that so far? How did that turn out for you..
There's never been more crosshairs than ever on your forehead than now. The games are over, now they want you, and your fat morbidly obeese flock of offspring.
So, what are you going to do?....apologize? Or take what is rightfully yours in the eyes of the one True..and come hell or highwater, be free...
Now or never kid, #pickupabrick

I can't believe that you fuckers (and I mean that in the nicest way) managed to get lawmakers to write this, but in all of your time here, in the complete history of the shroomery, NONE of you have managed to get lawmakers to write or say anything about LSD or psilocybin.
For fuck sake, this is unbelievable.
This is the SHROOMERY. In all the time that we've existed, we've made little or no progress on getting lawmakers to talk about psychedelics, but when they threaten to ban your precious kratom then all of a sudden it's "OH GOD NO WE'VE ALL GOT TO BAND TOGETHER AND STOP THEM." For fuck sake.
Anyway, congratulations you crazy fucks
Keep it up and you might actually accomplish something.

I think it may have something to do with the absurdity factor there, professor.

Maybe that has to do with the fact that most psychedelics were scheduled before the majority of us were even born, and this is happening now.
Aside from that psychedelics have a more limited audience where as kratom's plethora of medicinal benefits allow it to replace many medications.
That makes kratom beneficial to a ton of people, not that psychedelic aren't in their own way. But they aren't going to cure your crippling pain

If you look at the AKA Facebook page, which is largely what pushed this, you'll see that nearly everyone has like 10 autoimmune diseases. This ban is hitting a very desperate demographic.
