forgot to state that I added some vinegar to water, never had any problems.

We have kerosene heaters, tables with blankets on them and a heater under, and lots of layers to keep warm. The lack of insulation is so the house can breath in the summer even though mold gets to everything, and for the carbon build up from the heaters to escape in the winter.
I feel you, I used to live in a shittier city of Turkey and couldn't do shit because of similar reasons.
Moved to a better city now .) Having lived like that makes me really appreciate having heaters in my apartment right now (though I usually don't turn it on as I'm used to cold)

I was just reading some of RR's writings and this story about colonization in temperatures as low as -1 degree celcius came up and I remembered your thread, just wanted to share:
"Last year, while visiting my brother, I inoculated a bunch of jars for him, thinking he was actually interested. This was in December. I went back in February, and found he didn't have time to bother with them, so put them out in the garage. Temps outside were in the teens and twenties, and in the unheated garage, 30's to low 40's. The jars were fully colonized. I took them home and they fruited like mad. Low temps slow things down, but that's all."

I may give it a try this winter so I have something to do :P
Well today I opened up the jar to toss into my outside patch. It colonized a little more, but pretty much looked the same as the pictures. Funny thing is that it didn't have any bacterial smell. Just really strong mushroomy smell.
We'll see how that goes. It's been raining for pretty much 2 weeks straight. It's chilly out, but there were a couple of gross warm and muggy days this week. For the first time since I started the patch this year, there are 2 shrooms finally growing :P
