Why are people not growing truffles?

So i just saw online that certain truffle species are wicked valuble. Some are worth hundreds of dollars a pound or more. So, why do I not see any of The Shroomery's fungi experts attempting to grow truffles to make serious cash? Are they difficult to grow? Or difficult to sell? Or what?

High investment costs, $70-150 per infected tree sapling, long waiting period of 5-10 years, and possibility of total failure makes it a risky investment. With high start up costs. $30,000+ per acre.

And I don't think the truffle sniffing dogs are cheap either.

What about growing them at a small scale level with less investments? Is that possible?

Do some googling on it, you will see how daunting the task is, small or big.

sure its possible, but maybe you'll have one truffle at harvest time rather than an income.

Any links or sources on where to buy the saplings, and from that couldn't you create your own infected saplings?

Well obviously the sapling method is tough because thats a huge investment. But I know people on here grow small amounts of psychedelic truffles for themseleves. Is it realistic to grow small amounts edible truffles and then sell those?

Truffles are obligate mycorhizal species. No tree, no truffle. The psychedelic ones don't need tree hosts
