Maybe I miss understood what you were trying to get across to me when you said..

I thought you meant that that once a spore germinates you have to separate the growth from the point where the spore was on the dish??? An I was wondering what happens if youdont does that point where the spore was get contaminated or???

Typically, once the spores have germinated, people will transfer to a new plate. From there you can continue to transfer the stronger growths to new plates, isolating that strong growth, usually the rhizomorphic (ropey looking)sectors. Then, when you have a few different areas isolated down on different plates, you can expand and fruit each of them to pick the best performer......read up.

Agar work IS NOT COMPLICATED. I began working with fungi on agar as a beginner. Agar work opens up a whole new area of cultivation and experimentation. It enables you to get away from multispore grows and to begin working with clones and to clean up contaminated specimens. Once you do a bit of reading and actually start to play with agar, you'll find it to be very easy and you'll wonder why you didn't jump into it sooner.

I've been messing with agar for a couple weeks now and it is very simple. Don't be intimidated, you can clearly see if theres a contamination. Just follow the teks
