Do you attend protests?

What do you think is the validity of protesting and marching in the street? Does this do anything to help attain the aims of the protesters, and is it an effective way to vocalize a worthy cause?
I'm not talking about any protest in particular, but the idea of it in general. Sit-ins, marches, rallies, etc.
Do you attend these, and do you think that they are worthwhile?

Nope. Freedom of speech is dead. Minorities will stab you if your opinion/complexion differs from their own.

I avoid group causes cause I feel people get mixed up in things. If you really want to avoid the police live as a hermit and don't break the law.

I haven't gone to any, but yes I do think they make a difference. What else CAN we do to have our voices heard?
I think the black lives matter protests going on are mostly a load of BS so I don't go to those.

Only if it looks like it'll turn into a riot/clash with police. That's one of the most fun things I've ever done.

The British colloquial term is 'wanker'.

I'm never gonna go and be part of a protest. It's an awesome way to get in shit for no reason. Plus they accomplish nothing unless the entire country has come to a grinding halt because of it. These local few days protest are a waste of time.
Take a look at the Occupy movement. It spread out all over the world. It lasted a month and then the cops tossed them on their asses and nothing happened.

Protest organizers are some driven people. They've gotta be absolutely committed and devoted to the progress of society.
I've met a few protest organizers and they range from highly intellectual, OCD type people to freedom fighting punx. It's really a crazy, great lot.
I've been to a few protests recently, and I think the best thing they do is in raising the morale of people who just want to see democracy and freedom in action. It's dubious whether or not they have a direct impact on politics, but the one's I've seen / been a part of have been spectacular events of human connection.

One of my more interesting friends drew an analogy today between the civil rights era and what's going on today with the BlackLivesMatter movement - that many people would think of themselves as having helped black people in the civil rights era and standing up for their cause... and so it stands to reason that if one thinks of himself in that light, why isn't he doing anything today to create equality (if he isn't already)?
Do your actions align more with the individuals who made it possible for this girl to go to school, or are you the woman in the back screaming or even the women on the right with cutting stares?

That's a good question. I think a lot of people would be shocked to find out where they really stand. Although things are much better for black people and brown people in comparison with legal segregation and obviously the times of slavery, racism is still insidiously institutionalized in the U.S.. Sometimes it seems like such a huge problem that there's nowhere to start, but huge problems simply require huge solutions, say like a massive spiritual awakening.
I have high hopes that through one's own spiritual awakening, translating into direct action in life, that positive change is only picking up steam. It's an uphill battle, though.
