Plastic lid question

Two questions actually. First I bought plastic lids from Amazon. Put in the injection ports and the filters. After pcing a batch of jars I noticed two things I didn't like on every jar. First every jar kid was a little loose. I gave them all a tighten right away. Is this normal? Is this an issue? Do the original metal rings do that? Second question I noticed the grains were wetter in random areas in the jars. I think this is normal but I'm not 100% sure. Is this just from the grains being originally wet and will even out after shaking and sitting? Thanks in advance

The plastic lids expand and it loosens them a tad. Just tighten them after the PC cycle. When the cool enough to handle, shake them to redistribute the moisture. This is all normal.

Don't tighten them after the PC cycle... just leave them how they are. If you tighten them while they're hot they're a mega bitch to get off once they cool, plus you start warping your threads and they just get harder to turn later. Just pick them straight up and put them somewhere without much draft. If you must tighten them, only do it just barely.
Better off tightening them BEFORE the PC cycle, then when they're hot they won't be so loose that they're a hazard.

I don't know what kind of plastic lids everyone else is using, but I get mine at Wally World. I tighten the shit out of them when they come out of the pressure cooker and I never have any problems removing them later. But if your scared your lids will get stuck on the jars, then just tighten slightly or not at all. Doesn't really make a difference in the end.

Some get so warped the lid will fucking pop right off with barely a twist. It's not a good time.

I see your point but that's not a problem I've run into. I've ran these lids through countless cycles and they still screw on and hold tight just like they did when they were new. And they're the cheap ass Walmart Mainstay brand. The reason I tighten them down good after pc'ing is that they are still a little soft and expanded. When they cool, I know they have shrunk to fit the jar tight. Now that I think about it, I have had a couple that seemed a little "out of round" but after tightening them and pc'ing them the shape seems to come back. Never had to throw one away because it lost function.

I haven't had to throw any away yet either, but I have a few stubborn ones that definitely weren't that way at first. I imagine this could reduce the effectiveness of the jar overall if it got out of hand. Just consider it a sneak preview into what might happen if you keep doing it.
I also run a bit higher than 15psi so that could be a factor I guess.

I was going to ask how hot you were getting them. Not sure what kind of plastic they use or at what temp the bonds start to break down. Never was a concern. Now banded lids on the other hand, I usually have to tap the edge of the band on opposite sides to get them to break free. They are all dented up but still keep on truckin.
