Habitat: Where does it grow? Connifer/softwood forest. What does it grow on? Found growing out of a fairly decayed tree of unknown species. Well rotted and mossy.
Gills: Yellow, larger ones darker into orange. Suspected to be young. Attached.
Stem: Between 1 and 2 1/2 inches long, yellow to yellow-orange, silky with small fibres, hollow.
Cap: 1-2 1/2", dark in the center with a very small nipple, lightening to the edges becoming orange then yellow to light yellow\green, silky and dry, convex to nearly planar.
Spore print color: Waiting for print, will update.
Bruising: Maybe a little yellow or green? Not really noticeable.
Other information: Light and sweet scent, not quite likt a mushroom. more like fruit skin. Deffinetly kinda smells like a mushroom though.

Just one in the pic, but there's more.

I think it may be a stropharia. Do post the spore print once it's ready.

The stipes lack a membranous ring. Could you specify which stropharia you suspect it is?

Well it appears to be printing brown or mayyybe rusty orange but I can't really tell as it isn't producing mich of a print. May have to give it some more time.

After considerable thought, I've decided to disagree. I don't think it can be Pholiota Alnicola. The young mushrooms, in fact all of them, lack slime. Pholiota Alnicola are also typically more yellow and solidly colored. I also should have mentioned some of them have adnate gills.

Here's what I think it could be. Or, maybe the common rustgill.

To Backyard:
This was the one I found, I think you're good. Mine had that 'scent' too. Although, mine was very bitter in taste, maybe yours just isn't. Found mine in a grove near a river in southcoast MA.
I ate the two you see in the picture and it was quite active, so I would say if you can compare my images to your images for size, heed the comparison when you're judging how much to eat

That's awesome I'm in Dartmouth, MA!! We're practically neighbors! I found some more that were in a dried up stream today but they had been rotted out by the rain we got down here like 3 days ago, which was also when I found the nice one

I got just under 6 lbs of CoW today, and 2 lb yesterday! Found a lot of rotted ones, didn't get out there soon enough, but my freezer is stocked!

After giving more thought and looking at everything you've said I'd say you're right about its being a gym- sorry to have led you astray

Yesterday, I headed 2 my Gym spot at the foot of the mtn. It had rained about 4 days ago & yesterday was my 1st chance 2 go. Found a few BUT as I was about 2 cut some Honey mushrooms I heard what I thought was a buck blowing at me. When I looked 2 see = a 250-300 lb bear 15' away looking straight at me. W/ the same breath I drew in 2 catch my breath - my mind kicked into survival mode, telling me 2 appear bigger than it - so as I exhaled it was a loud yell. Flailing my arms up & hollering the bear pounced back & took off then so did I, not running but quickly returning 2 my truck. I must admit - I peed a little.
Here's my finds drying...

Idc about a tummy ache so much, I just don't wanna go eating amatoxin my mistake is all.
