Coir is so cantam resistant..

So I decided after I put together a monotub that I would scrape out all remaining colonized grains out of all the jars and put them all in one, and throw a handful of 2-3 week old coir from out of my Crested Gecko tank into that jar. Probably has been pissed all over by now to be honest. Absolutely no fucks given about anything. Plus, the tank gets a misting daily anyway to keep the humidity up, so essentially it's been getting moistened daily for weeks.
You see, I remember carefully pasteurizing my CVG in the past, fearful of sub contaminating and turning. Since I have been back, I see that the general consensus is that it doesn't really matter at all how you prep coir as long as its to field capacity because it is so contam resistant. So I wanted to see kinda how true this is. Does it hold true, so much so that I can just grab some likely pissy weeks old coir out of a gecko tank and and throw some spawn and expect anything? .... I guess so.

This is trash really, im not gonna eat that. But I wanted to see if it could work and obviously it does. Coir is awesome.

Asmwone sauce. Dry it and give it to someone you don't like but want to get high. Coir can be very comtam resistant if not contamed before hand. Ive had coir with all kinds of stuff in it and it contams.

Way to go man. All these coir tests lately have had me paranoid about contams. Pasty found a grain in his coir and coir on agar etc. This is just what I needed

haha thats awesome!! what brand of coir did you use?
i use coir in pretty much every bulk sub, but havent ever used it without manure and/or straw. going to start playing with CVG alone as well
thanks for sharing this, and god bless coir

Pasty found a grain in his coir over a year ago... that information has been out there a while. There's a solution in the same thread that it's mentioned in.

All bulk subs are contam resistant if your spawn is clean. I got fruits from slurried PF cakes mixed with untreated coir, and I currently have 4 tubs of quick pasteurized hpoo/verm that are pinning. More on that after the harvest.

Dude there's a thread on the front page with someone who purposefully did not pasteurize their poo sub. I don't think the world is ready for these kinds of statements.

I think every pet store's reptile terrariums was pretty telling. Let alone if you ever had an iguana or something and used coir
It's tough to make it contaminate

It will still trich out spectacularly if your spawn isn't clean. There's no substrate that can resist that. The only time I've seen coir grow contams on its own is when I left some moist coir in a closed bucket and forgot about it for several weeks. There was some mold on it but I agree. Contams don't just start growing on it for no reason.

Contaminant mycelium fragments caused by mishandling contaminated substrates can cause almost anything, no matter how clean, to become fucked easily.
