I think the only important bit is that it's a non lethal alternative to an otherwise lethal habit. Whether it's an opioid or not is a semantic argument, however Morrowasted is correct in saying that care should be taken not to stretch the truth or make untrue claims.

I don't think anyone here is trying to argue that kratom does not contain compounds that are active at the µ-opioid receptors as well as other opioid receptors. It is these compounds that so many people are fighting for their right to use.
It would also be naive to believe that kratom does not also contain many other active compounds. Do some research, you can find some comprehensive lists of all the active compounds that have been identified in kratom thus far. I think you will be surprised. Their are μ -opioid antagonists, immunostimulants/anti-leukemics, muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatory, even compounds thought to be anti-carcinogenic, and many many more.
Here is one of many research articles to get you started: http://jaoa.org/article.aspx?articleid=2094342

Yo, my bad, I knew I would get some blowback for that comment but wasn't expecting an essay about it. Look, I'm an ex heroin addict. then on the suboxone train for a few years. Used kratom to help with suboxone detox, ended up getting hooked on that. That being said, I'm sure there are plenty of people who use kratom responsibly and it does great things for them. I am against the government banning any and all drugs, a firm believer in self regulation and small government. All I meant was that I had a bad experience with it. However I don't know how anyone can compare kratom detox to motrin...it activates the mu receptor and therefore creates tolerance and so on. Plenty of people on reddit and other such sites would be more than ready to disagree with a statement like that. No hard feelings or anything, and no, there is no need for name calling...what and how the brain handles substances is a purely subjective experience...

Haha its all good brother, maybe you just needed to vent, but accidentally in the wrong place. I wish you the best of luck in life from one recovering addict to another. Much love!

Why are you posting an ID request for those mushrooms in a thread about keeping kratom legal?
I've been tapering my kratom dose down even further. Took 4 grams this morning and feel great. Now I'm starting to get really excited at the prospect of stretching my big bag even further, although I'm also starting to get more hopeful about the ban being postponed indefinitely. I really hope someone will mention it at the next presidential debate. Not for what trump and Clinton may have to say about it, but to plead the case to the largest possible audience.

Fat chance. They want things to argue about, that the majority have strong opinions about. Or at least the majority of those who are important. Not us.

Well the next debate is town hall style and will have questions from the audience. If only the AKA could plant someone in there to ask tough questions about the failed war on drugs...

Wow. That article is very negatively biased, and has some outright lies and omissions. Like it talks about it being illegal in Thailand but not why (it was outlawed in Thailand specifically because it was cutting into the opium trade). And nobody smokes kratom
It's nothing like cocaine. To me the effects are like hydrocodone but milder and without the side effects like constipation and itchiness.

They might not even make it illegal they are letting people speak their minds first. I think a useful argument would be that kratom is related to coffee. Hopefully we can get it totally unregulated like coffee.
It might just be in the form of a pill or cough syrup only available for prescription to either people who are in pain, sick or are recovering opiate addicts. It might be banned totally

If it wasn't Narco I would right them some strongly worded emails, in fact I am tempted to regardless.
Maybe if I bombard them with facts they will be unable to deny their hypocrisy and BS...

I think it needs to be pushed more as an energy supplement than a pain killer/opioid alternative. That's probably the most innocent light it can be cast in, and really what it primarily is.

A kratom survey for your liking!
https://ufl.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_25E9Tkif35g023j
Quote:
KEEPING THE PRESSURE ON!!!! (But for those of you needing rest, please rest!)
Here are things you can be doing until we hear details about the public comment period. In quotes are examples of what to say:
1) KEEP calling the DEA (202) 307-1000
"I am a responsible adult who consumes Kratom to improve my health and well-being and I urge you not to emergency place it into schedule 1, but to go through a rigorous public and scientific comment process instead."
2) KEEP calling and e-mailing your congressperson and Senator (202) 224-3121. Press #1 for Senate and #2 for House. BUT! Please make sure you also call your local district office since Congress is now in recess.
For e-mails - Find your Rep - here http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/
And your Senator here - http://www.senate.gov/senators/contact/
Send copies of the letters (all in the files here). If they signed on to any of the letters, tell them thank you and ask if they could personally follow-up by calling the DEA directly for a response. If they didn't sign any of the letters ask if they would be willing to send one of their own (if they have questions you can't answer, let us know in this thread which we'll keep bumped and we'll have AKA or our lobbyists follow up).
3) Find out where your Congress people are going to be for public events, town halls, election events, etc. (because they are in your state campaigning right now) and SHOW UP dressed professionally (or looking sharp in one of the many #iamkratom shirts out there - no signs, these types of events don't usually allow anyone to bring signs). Take copies of the 4 congressional letters to try and hand to them. Be prepared to ask a question about Kratom publicly or face-to-face before or after the event.
"There is a move right now by the DEA to emergency schedule Kratom, a botanical used safely throughout the world for hundreds of years to improve health and well-being, as a schedule 1 controlled substance; the most restrictive category claiming no medicinal value. Kratom helped give me my life back and is saving the lives of tens of thousands throughout the U.S. during an opioid epidemic. What's your take on the DEA trying to schedule a plant and turn me into a felon, further mucking up our already overtaxed criminal justice system, for using something that's drastically improved my life and the lives of hundreds of thousands of others?"
4) Start drafting what you would like to submit during the comment period. We will try and come up with some template letters.
THANKS FOLKS!
