got a letter from my internet provider
    #23666080 - 09/21/16 07:21 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

I got a letter from my internet provider that they passed onto me from Paramount pictures.  It was basically stating that they tracked my IP address showing that I have been sharing video files, which I was.  I have done this in the past with a previous provider and have never gotten a letter.

They also went on saying that they are going to keep any evidence that may pertain to a lawsuit.

how serious is this document?  have any of you gotten one in the past?  Can I do something and continue to DL movies or should I just give it up?

Nothing will happen but switch internet providers.

Torguard.com

It's like 10 bucks a month. Won't impact your speeds, or shouldn't anyways. Didn't effect mine.

Yeah. ISP won't be able to tell what you're doing exactly, they might be able to make a reasonable guess you're using a torrent, but without the specifics (and a copyright) it means fuck all to them. Anyone on the other end won't be able to trace it to you, so the companies that make all these ISP reports on behalf of companies like Paramount, won't have a clue what ISP to contact, much less give them any info that will trace back to you.

For just general copyright stuff, VPN is all you need to stay completely anonymous. No one is going to invest time and money into trying to track you down when there are millions of other people they can report instead. If you were doing something highly illegal in that VPN, then someone might take the time to track you down.

You can set the client up so it auto closes whatever torrent program you're using if you're disconnected from the VPN (it will happen so set it up). As long as the torrent program is never running without the VPN, you're safe.

Downloading doesn't get you in trouble, it's seeding that does. Anyway I guess that's being a little greedy, but that's how I avoid any letters.
